What does a little risk scare you that bad Lolin? Money's too easy to come by. I personally like Daare's idea.
Daare’s ideas have great merit. Even a new player could make money as a hired guard (no investment necessary) and the more advanced players could invest in the convoys to earn greater profit at the cost of greater risk.
Add some AI pirates and you have the makings of some outstanding missions.

I wasn't replying to Daare's post but FistOfRage's post.
I wasn't replying to your post, I was simply complimenting Daare's ideas. We need to encourage more creative thinking of this sort.
In response to Lolin:
No cost or penalty makes VO a dull game. I've probably made close to 200 million credits just running escorts. Now never mind that as Inc mentioned, escort missions will eventually be overhauled. I'll probably make the same eventually by busting them open and selling the goods. 32 mill so far is a good start.
But your right. 400,000cr is a lot for a new player to lose. I don't want to scare you, but I've popped heavies that have yielded over a million in reward. Just imagine if I'd been able to take out the whole thing! In such a case, there should be limits or controls in place to contain a new players losses.

However, I am very much in agreement with Daare's suggested alternative to a point. Buying into a voy would mean that a player should know what goods the voy is carrying. Who's going to buy into a voy carrying Free Power Cells? Or 25 % of Sedina Chocolates?
10,000cr * 120 (behemoth heavy) = 1,200,000cr
1,200,000 cr * 25% = 300,000cr (player invested credits)
assume the average profit margin of about 1500cr per cu
1500cr * 120cu = 180,000cr (profit)
25% * 180,000 = 45,000cr player profit.
In my opinion, the risk and / or capital invested are not justified by the reward. I'm not trying to discourage the idea, because I like it a great deal.
Also, If we know what items are being moved when we invest, will they tank the market? Unless escorts are redesigned to carry multiple cargo more frequently or make more stops, a large convoy could be counter productive under the current economy.
Alternatively, consumer electronics would be a better escort item under this situation.
The cost is likely off a small amount.
300cr * 120 (behemoth heavy) = 36,000cr
36,000cr * 25% = 9,000cr (player invested credits)
assume the average profit margin of about 1500cr per cu
1500cr * 120cu = 180,000cr (profit)
25% * 180,000 = 45,000cr player profit.
This makes the trade worthwhile with respect to investment and if the player is not required to travel with the voy, risk and labor. Otherwise, risk and labor may make this trade not worth doing.
Ok. Its late, and its been ages since I seriously traded. Feel free to nitpick my numbers. The numbers are based off of my memory of frequently trading cons elec and why I never traded Sedina Chocolates.
