If the valk's gonna have 1400 hull then it needs to have it's maneuverability down to the vults level at least and even if it balances the three special ships it will reducue the effectivness of the regular ships.
well why did Phoenix say that? because he's a pirate
Why make specials even more stronger over the regular ships? it's very strong already.

A) The prom is not stronger than anything.
B) I agree, the valk should have only "High" agility, the vult "Very High" and the Centurion "Extremely High"
C) Erm... Actually, there is no C.

A) Prom is way better than the wraith
But it doesn't compete with the wraith. It competes more with the raganorak, which has a lot more firepower than it.
Who said it does?
Me. The wraith is a different ship. It's lightly armoured and lightly armed. The prom is supposed to be a heavy bomber isn't it?
The wraith is a light attack ship, the prom is a armored bomber thing.
well if it's gonna gain a L port drop its agility, it's near hornet's right now.
Near hornet's? Have you ever flown it? I fly it as a pirate ship and can attest that it's nowhere NEAR hornet's.
Very close to the hornet. It's also an armored bomber, and it's got lotta armor on it.
There's a point when a ship can be too maneuverable. With a heavy engine, I usually struggle to keep the Centurion under control (usually end up overturning in close combat). It's probably because my mouse sensitivity is up to 30 in the settings.ini file. It's kind of hard to balance out the mouse sensitivity throughout the wide range of ships to choose from, since they all vary in agility. Anyway, I think there'll eventually be a point where having an uber agile ship would be pointless. I think a1k0n's flying saucer may be the most agile yet.
There are 4 ways to balance the valk :
1) Keep hull/maneuverablity but remove one weapon slot.
2) Keep maneuverablity/weapon slots but reduce hull to 8000.
3) Keep weapons slots/hull but reduce maneuverablity.
4) Increase the effectivness of the lighter ships.
4 is my favourate I've been flying a cent alot recently and its a good ship untill you face a valk then you'll either be gauss rammed or rocket rammed.

I agree, it would get to a point were it would just be a first person shooter in space but I want to see the centurion as the fastest ship in the game rather than having a krogoth situation. Swaping the centurion and the valks maneuverablity would be better than nothing.
you guys are trying to make the valk a normal ship. If you really want to balance it, make it a normal ship. But if not, Raise the price of the ship. make it 100K but don't change it.
/me can't even fly a valk without killing himself...
It's just too darn agilie - ofcause this is caused by my lack of experience in it - but geezz, look at the size of that thing =D
EDIT: btw... You're right on that one Arolte...

Increasing the price won't fix the problem. And a valk with the maneuverablity of a vult would still be a powerful ship but it will make it at least possible to kill in lighter ships.
Giving the fastest ship in the game a huge hull is just a really stupid idea not only is it nearly impossible to hit but even if you do hit you've only done about 7% damage.
So, it's basically just a choice between losing hull or losing maneuverablity and I'd rather see maneuverablity reduced or they'd risk just creating a expensive clone of the vult.

/me points to his maneuverability experiment thread:

An interesting side note, (if you place any credence at all in that STI thingy I came up with), according to my calculations either taking the valk's hull down to 7000 or removing one weapon slot would perfectly balance it with the Maud. Bumping the Prom's hull up to 24000 would also perfectly balance it with the Maud.
Imho I think both the Valk *and* the Maud oughta be dumbed down a little so that they are on par with the Prom as it currently is. Uber-special ships just doesn't promote variety at this stage in the test.
edit: Just did some quick calculations...
Bringing the Valk down to 7,000 hull *and* giving it one less weapon port would do the trick (STI = 3.73)
Bringing the Maurauder down to 2/3 its current agility would also even things out (STI = 3.68)
The Prom could be left as it is (STI = 3.33)
In this case, the Valk would *still* be the toughest ship in my opinion, but things would be a lot more balanced between the specials and non-specials.

What happens to STI if you swap the manuverablilty of the cent & valk?
Phaserlight,
That would make the valk worse than the vult. They're fairly close as it is now. I don't really understand how you calculate STI, but I don't think it takes into account target size, especially the extremely significant thin profile of the vult. Dropping the Maud's agility would nerf it as a trade ship as well as a fighter, and it's really the only effective trader at the moment. How about getting rid of some of its guns before slowing it down.
