Tournament idea..
Hi, how about this - a tournament similar to a soccer world championship.
You've got 32 players which will battle for the championship - having pre-finals, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.
Each duel goes over three rounds: first round the setup (ship, weapons) player A chooses, second round the setup player B choses, third round the setup agreed by the tournament rules.
If you're duelling a teammate, you have to chose a secondary character to be able to duel.
There should be an entrance fee (for example, 1 million), the winner gets all entrance fees (which should amount up to 32 Millions)
What do think about this idea? I'm just not sure if really people would do this - since they egos might get bruised :-/

Mark (Commander Jameson)

Sign me up!
SF did stuff like this before... you want to organize?
I'd be in. (although i would be one of the first ones out) but not for a million cr. entrance fee, how about a 250,000 amature class entrance fee.
Eldrad: can do - but first I'd like to know if people really like the idea, if it needs to me modified, etc.
Yeah heck I'm in!
1mil is a bit too much though. Make it 500k.
Cheers, Grim.

Yea we tried huh how many times atleast 5...1 of the times it actually went through...the only problem is...the players who vs each other barely ever come online at the same time.
Cool Buckaroo I'm interested.
The one suggestion I'd make (feel free to ignore it if you don't like it) is to give the fighters more freedom over their own weapons. So maybe on the round they choose the weapons they can say 1 weapon that is not allowed, instead of exactly what will be used. Also the predeturmined fight could have some freedom built in so that neither rocketers or energy users are given the upper hand.

StarFreeze: yes, I see the problem - the solution would be setting fixed appointments which both player will agree to, something like:
Icarus vs. Phoenix: 20:00 GMT
Eldrad vs. Grim Battol: 19:00 GMT
Eldrad: yes - the predetermined fight should only set up the ship - vulture, IMHO. The fighters are free to chose the weapons. But I think it's still a good idea to fight against the exact same configuration - there are two rounds, and each fighter can chose the configuration which suits him best and his opponents worst.
But I'm still collecting ideas first :-)

This *IS* an excellent idea!
Perhaps the final could be held in s14, after someone has got all the bots riled up =)
But I strongly think that the matches would need to be discreet, this should avoid certain griefers piling in. Either that or arange some heavy guards...

pixel it wouldn't be hard to be discrete...
Buckaroo... I like the idea of not identical weapon configs, but again feel free to do it as you like I'll join and enjoy it either way.

Eldrad: what about this compromise: the player in one of the two user-defined duels sets the rules to which both player have to obey, like:
- hornet, no sunflares
- valk with the following combination
- warthogs, only energy weapons allowed.
That would be much more flexible and incorporate both of our ideas - it's the player's choice what he wants to do
About the matter of discretion: I'm not exactly sure if that will be necessary, because I hope that this tournament will attract spectators - they can attack any spoilsports. But we'll see if discretion is necessary.

[NK]Mutant used to have some sort of betting setup going on too didn't he?
/me spanked CJ multiple times today....
/me's in

OK, there appears to be enough interest, so let's do it :-)
I think the best way would be to have a seperate forum for this whole idea - to discuss rules, accept enlistments, etc.
StarFreeze, how about adding another board to your forum, called "Tournament"?
Or should we wait for the end of the poll?

I'll add one if ya want... I got booted from an admin postition on SF's board when he deleted all the gov't boards, though, so it'll have to be on mine.
I'm in... if no specials.
Roguelazer: I can add another forum just as easily to the neutral website :-) I think it wouldn't be very appropiate, since this tournament should be a multi-nation game, not a neutral one.
Right now, the oldest and best-known forum is StarFreeze's forum - the only one which is the most neutral (in the real sense of the word, not neutral = gold :)) one.
Blaster: it's up to the what the player choose in the "player-defined" round - player A may choose in his round "Valk, no rockets", player B may choose in "his" round: "No special ships".

Mark (Commander Jameson)

Its neutrality... I won't mention it here because I don't want to go OT... Nonetheless, don't assume such.
Tournament forum made...
