FF - request from [PA]
In order to run a non national bus derby we would like the FF restrictions removed from one sector. Latos a-1 comes to mind as a possible site.
wah?
Sweet! Please do it. B8 would be even better. FF was designed to protect noobs - not much of a problem in b8!
We are looking to run furball type events there but friendly fire prohibits it. In B-8 dueling is a lot more practical.
Urm ok you clearly dont read the "future of vo threads" the devs are planning to remove friendly fire, takes alot of work and setting up other stuff like the "forgive me" shooting, and the faction needs work first before they release that, atleast i think there all closely linked, so the plan is to remove friendly fire everywhere... patience
I know they are planning to remove FF ... soon(TM)
We would like to host some events now...
Which is why we are only requesting it removed in one sector...
A-1 in latos is basicly unused for any purpose and so is very limited in abuse potential.

Because of this thread, I brought this up during our Monday meeting tonight.
We don't really have a way to do this, at present. In the past, Guides have gone through the arduous hack of writing down everyone's faction standing, and then tanking their standing to KoS, and reverting it at the end of the event. This is, for obvious reasons, not a great solution (especially when some people leave early and have to be chased down and blah blah).
Ray is going to look at adding an option for this, but it requires a release, so it's not likely to appear before Fri. It's also not as high-priority as our other ongoing development, so it might be pushed back by other things he has to do.. but he will try to add it in the nearer term if possible.
Of course, we are going to be generically dropping FF, but this might be a useful thing to have for the coming weeks until that happens.. just so we can have more Events and the like.

Many thanks Incarnate. We deeply appreciate the effort.
Just make the sector automatically apply temp kos to all three superfactions on entrance to the sector. That way you don't have to record anyone's current faction, and it will fix itself when they warp out.
Or we could probably just drop FF with about the same dev time and a far better result.
Thanks for the encouraging response, inc! I'll lobby again for dropping FF in b8. Players look to b8 for pvp action. Thus b8 is a great place to run furballs because new pilots happen by on a regular basis. Dropping FF there will add tremendous flexibility making teams. Currently, there are often unsuitable groupings such as Viper with SYN simply because of the FF limitation.
Well, my biggest priority right now is dropping FF, period. We wouldn't be burning time on this, except that Ray said it shouldn't take very long to do, and we can probably roll it into a release between other things. All that being said though, happy to accommodate.
/me cheers Inc on....
Go Inc we know you can
You will prove to be our man
Kill the FF pretty please
Let us slaughter all with ease
whohoo (insert appropriate cheerleader jumps and armpumps)

Sweet. Plus, this also has the possible side effect of allowing us to find potential bugs/exploits/other issues before FF protection is dropped globally.
