Ping / Latency limit on servers?

Jan 31, 2009 Noccy link
Hi people

I've read up on Vendetta and it seems absolutely awesome, and I'm dying to try it out.

However, seeming like a pretty intense action game, there is one concern of mine... lag.

Being in the country I am, with a monopolistic government-controlled telecommunications provider, my latency to international servers range from 300-600+ ms. (ADSL 4mb connection)

So before I go download, and get addicted to the game - please let me know if there's a minimum latency requirement, as to not cause an imbalance. I've been shouted at and banned off some Freelancer servers in the past, due to players reporting me as "too hard to beat in combat" due to movement being a bit too jerky for them.

Thanks in advance

Hmm, 300 - 600 sounds a bit on the high side . I ping about 150 - 160 from the UK, and I rarely get accused of being laggy in combat. Subjectively I think that not having a consistent flow of data is more of a contributor to jumpiness than the absolute ping value . I have seen folk with low pings jumping all over the place due to their connections being choked by big data flows from torrents and so on .

This only applies to pvp combat . Other vo activites such as trade and mining are hardly affected at all by having a higher ping .

VO gives you a free 8 hour trial. That is plenty of time to have a look at the basics. Find a regular player and try a bit of sparring, we can easily see if lag is going to be an issue for you .

In my experience pings above 200 are too high, tho not yet high enough to cause jumping around, but high enough that i can't fight effectively.
That being said, do use the trial and check it out, who knows, maybe you'll get better pings :)

Here in Central America my ping ranged from around 150 to 1500, where it was practically unplayable and frustrating. Under 300 is acceptable, then it starts getting ugly at 400.

Also, behold!
The horror:

300-600 is fine for trading/mining. Ouch, 1500 is definitely on the high side.

We have people on satellite connections (1000-2000ms) who are able to play just fine from a trading/mining type perspective. Combat is practically impossible at those latencies. But our game is designed to be as forgiving of latency as possible, so combat still works pretty well out to around 300ms, as people have mentioned.

Hi ppl, and thanks for the great response - I'll definately try out the demo then, and hope for the best.

I'm playing WoW with a ping of 450-600 with no prob, but that's not really comparing apples with apples - so I'll just hold thumbs.
