Leber: you forget that one can always run a concurrent account on a separate machine to see the reaction, if one is muted, for example. Trust me on this ;)
Well, it's highly likely that that current account on a separate machine is sharing an IP, and is certainly in the same subdomain, at least in the U.S.
But, yes, having multiple pre-existing accounts is a definite workaround. We'll also have to require that no players who are accused of behaving poorly are able to log in from similar IP addresses within a geographic radius. It will increase the ping times by maybe 25%, but the added security for newbs will be worth it.
Furthermore, we should impose financial penalties for each reported transgression. Guild software already has the CC #'s of subscribers. A small $1 US fine for each infraction could be imposed, with an appeals process in place if the fine-ee feels the fine is unjustified.
Yes. That should definitely do it. NOW The newbs will be safe.

Actually one item that should be considered is corvus. This is the supplier of choice for evil doers... lower requirements say 1 or two levels is ok but no requirements invites massive abuse.
Restricting damage to newbs with training weapons might be an idea....
Any system that leaves a player defenseless will be abused so powering down wont work.

Kettle: ..what? If powering down weapons is a general requirement for entering given a region, and otherwise the SF and turrets start shooting at you, it's probably a viable solution to certain problems.
Leber: entire school campuses are behind single IPs, as are large apartment complexes, corporations and other places where multiple people may be playing independently.

Well, then, I suppose we'll have to alert the campus/apartment complex/corporation as to who the griefer is, and once they have meted out frontier justice, we can allow those other non-griefers back in to play the game, with either a video track of the beating administered, or in rare cases an audio version, as long as the sound quality is good.
When those files are submitted via FTP upload (Guild software will need to dedicate an FTP area for this), then that IP can be released again, allowing other players at that college/business/organization to continue playing.
I think we've solved this issue!
In rare instances, we may have to contract out for local muscle to ensure the "frontier justice" is succesful. This is preferable compared to the alternative of allowing the newbs to be virtually killed over and over again until they quit.

I think ip addresses and credit card numbers should be kept out of this. Mostly people just need to stop whining.
At this point, Leber, I think even the oblivious incarnate has picked up on your snark.
I picked up on it before. I just chose to answer the point, since someone else was sure to.. whatever, I'm going to lock this thread now.
