The record is 200 or 300, I think.

Might want to revise this thread.

There was ~320 online at once in 2004, but that was during the beta when the game was free. There hasn't been more than 100 online at once in about 4 years.

We had over 300 online after release as well, at one point. I believe it was in 2004.

None of this detract at all from the fact that it's very cool to see the recent increased player counts.

Inc. I remember over 600 being online after the EnB migration. Channel 100 was a mess.

what's nice is this has been generally sustained for several days now. the dead point still being over 50 people which before the promo was our previous average peak!

the fact that it is sustaining means people aren't playing for 5 min and saying "Screw you Incarnate!" and leaving like they did after launch in 04

Depressing: At the moment 12 Itani, 2 Serco, 10 UIT.

And one of the Serco is a shop, so really just one lonely Serco.

:(

Trying my best, but VO decided not to play nice on my G4 atm, and my MacBook Pro's temp sensors/fan control/something else is out of whack, so I can't play...

I know. I'm using it. It does not cool my GPU sufficiently (it regularly goes above 76°C when playing games a tad heavy in the graphics requirement). And somehow, the fans do not spin up anymore when the temperature rises, as they previously did. But I'm planning to send it in as soon as my exams are over.

It think we are past the point when we will have 100 players online at any time now :( I think the peak last night was 50 players :(

We still need to find a way to encourage more players to be serco though.

If the devs want to have the active player count hit 100 consistently, they would have to run advertising and promotions like they had in December every 2-3 months. It would be expensive, but I think that's what it would take. Then, every time there is a rush of new players during one of those promotions, a certain percentage stick around and become vets, so as you run advertising like that regularly, the overall steady player-base will rise over time. You could probably triple the average active player count over the course of a year that way, and then it would start to take off on its own.

I agree strat, also i think as the game is fixed in its most damaged areas: economy, apparently BS/BP, CTC, faction wise, FF, and implements new additions the population will stick around much longer.

We're aiming to do promotions like this more often. That was also part of getting the first mailing-list usage out.. I was concerned about using it the first time, but now I plan to use it with some regularity (maybe not frequently, but at least every couple of months when I have something new to report).

I tried this game right after E&B shut down, didn't stay for long. My wife just made me quit WoW so I'm back. I've got to say, this is by far the nicest and most helpful bunch of players I've ever seen in a General Channel.

She made you quit WoW... so you head to a new MMO? o.o

One that is both cheaper and less of a grind-fest, to boot!
Jan 09, 2009 CrazySpence link
yea, i stopped grinding like years ago cause it only takes a small amount of level to get the awesome Hog!

When I worked for Funcom, one of the cheapest ways to add new players was the referral system. We came up with two ways, one was a buddy referral where you got free game time for signing up new players, the other was cash for new sign-ups which was used for gaming/affiliate sites. Both only pay out after X months subscription.

It really is a cheap and easy way to add another trickle of new players. Make some nice banners that sites can put up and you're pretty much done.
