Holy CRAP!!!! 2500 free month keys, thats like 25000$ worth of vo time (please someone tell me i suck at math and that i fracked up yet again)
how the hell are the server going to handle like a billion new players???
And what stops me from creating a million billion accounts and never having to pay for vendetta again (not that i would do it)

We didn't get to do the art, they do it from stock stuff we send. I offered to do it. <shrug>.

Each key can only be applied to a single account, so you would have to keep switching characters, or deleting the character on the old account and starting over every month on a new character.

I expect that some of our older users will exploit it to some extent, I'm just hopeful the the overall exposure (on the front of MMORPG.com, even) and not-so-exploitative usage will strongly outweigh any negative concerns. Plus, if older players want an opportunity to check things out (albeit not on their old account), so much the better.

Exposure is what we need, and this helps.

Most likely, these players will come in over a period of several weeks, so I don't really expect a massive player inundation. That being said, I just sent out our emergency-capacity plan to the dev email list.. we have at least four more machines (two dual cores, one single core and a quad core) we can roll in on short notice (probably within an hour or so), already in place at the colo and remotely accessible. Plus another two dual cores which would be possible within 24 hours or so, that would have to be installed at the colo.

We'll see how it goes, and we'll keep an eye on our game-load graphs.

The keys are limited to one mmorpg.com account, its so easy to just create a new one (just nabbed 2 keys for free)
maybe thats on there end but if someone wants to play vo free for a year all they need is a few Email accounts and about 30 minutes.

Yes, but free for a year on twelve different accounts. Whatever, it's the best I could do. A two-week trial sounds lame, since everyone does that, a month sounds more interesting.

Flagship? No, not really. I actually gave them a bunch of images of different ships, they chose to use that one.

I have dugg and tried to help out for the morning, will continue to be on high n00b-alert for the rest of the month. Actually, just make that the rest of ever. Hope this goes great!

To be honest, I'm rather tempted to snag a key myself, after having been out of the game for three years, and seeing first-hand all of the nifty improvements I've been reading about. However, at the rate that they're disappearing, I get the impression that it would be rather unfair to the prospective newbies out there.

Of course, you can rest easy knowing that when I actually have money to spend, renewing my subscription is near the top of a very short list of things-to-buy. ^_^
