VO Official Desktop Icon?
When I installed VO on Ubuntu, for my current user, it didn't create a menu item in the desktop menus, so I'm adding it manually. However I'd like to use the official VO icon, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.
Should the installer have done this for me?
Where can I find official icons for the game?

The installer predates Ubuntu's existence, and was developed to permit generic installation across any Linux distro. So, it works on everything, but is not particularly pretty.
Recently I've been looking at the possibility of rolling it as a Debian package on our own dedicated repository, but I just haven't had time.. too many other priorities.
The icon is actually included in the binary itself, but I don't think we offer a separate one right now. Some other Linux people can probably give you a more informed response on making it look pretty. My home Linux box died a few months ago, and I have yet to rebuild it.

Thanks! I totally understand on the linux package front.

Yay to that one. I was looking furiously for *some* Package for my debian box (deb/rpm via alien) before grudingly using the install script.
I love the 'aptitude-purge-and-squish-every-damn-file' concept. Keeps me from reinstalling my box every 6 months or so.
As another note, might as well put up an installation-wrapper on the official ubuntu/debian non-free repositories, which fetches the current client when installed (like many of the non-free pkgs).
Tends to get some more 'just curious' installs.
I missed the possibility to get the client and fire up the login screen before signing up, just to see it *works* -- and some droolworthy graphics :D (Do that every now and then with my EVE install -- just staring at the login screen and enjoying the music, now that I don't subscribe it anymore. Stupid, i know)

Yeah, I figured it would be good for that. I'm looking into whenever I get some time, but there hasn't been a lot of that lately. I also just got a new motherboard for my Linux box (which is usually Ubuntu), so whenever I get around to rebuilding that I'll probably check into the package thing further.
Ideally, I'd like to make a net-book type package too, for EeePC 901+ people and so on, with special default settings, but that might be a bit more involved to set up and maintain.. not sure.
The option of having the package system auto-download the latest binary is pretty appealing, anyway.

VO seems to be in a gentoo repository somewhere, was able to use emerge when I set up Sabayon on my PC. It uses a Valkyrie Icon.
Yeah, it's been in Gentoo for a very long time, thanks to one of our early users being a Gentoo developer.
But it could probably benefit from being a friendly Debian/Ubuntu package as well, with a happy icon that auto-installs.
