It took me less than 5 mintues to set up a scritp in game that would spam the chat. That was 2 minutes ago that i unleashed it. Ping jumped to 900, and the chat is compleatly flooded at a rate of 6 words/second. This is madness. my log file is over a meg now, or eery close to it. Install a chat filter, i beg you.

In all seriousness, yes, chat should probably be incoming-bandwidth-limited like it is in IRC. That would probably help. I still think the whole chat system should be replaced by something for smaller groups of players, but that's a longer-term thing.

I like public chat. Just have somthing like no more then 5 lines every 10 seconds. one line every 2 seconds...or maybe 3.

THe problem with that is for people like me. I often (in irc and MSN) say half of what im saying, then hit enter.
example: (to a friend who also plays vendetta, his alias is FarSide)

apart from the fact that anon was being VERY lasy in his replys today, you will note that i dont say everything on one line. This is due to the fact that:
it doesnt always fit
it bores people to wait for the whole thing. let them read it in stages. more exciting.

Err... but is that really the quick solution? To remove or change public chat? Although I do agree too. But either way you need flood protection.

If only the spammers were on 56k, then you could send them an Out Of Bounds protocol error >:)

Alternativly; cease global chat, stop vendetta becomming a pretty irc client full of issuing busses :/ (keep pm's though, just for the pirates courtesy call)
