Just a little while ago I found something absolutely bizarre while using one of my alts. Vaporized a few moth heavies, turned around, cargo looked pretty normal. When I targetted it to see what it was the read-out said "Corvus Marauder Mercenaries (120x 300cu)", there were 2 of these crates..

Would the devs PLEASE give us something to PICK UP cargo that is 300cu each before putting it in NPCs? That alt of mine could have been one of the richest buggers on VO if it could;ve sold all 240 corvus mauds at 0 buy price hehe..

That's awesome. And as far as I know, we are not secretly testing anything. If I had to guess, this is a Kourier snafu, picking the wrong cargo to put on a transport, or spawning the wrong cargo when it dies, or something along those lines.

Based on Inc's response, I guess my assumption that the devs knew about this issue was incorrect. This has happened often enough in the past. I've personally never encountered it, but I know of people who have found mothloads of Valkryie's, and old school EC-88's (They were kind enough to hook me up :P).

Those don't have engines, so you can't pilot them.

You could fly the ones I'm talking about...

You might be able to undock, but engines are technically separate from ships, so if it was a cargo crate then you only get the ship, sans engine.
