Request for new artwork (and how VO should be adapted for widescreen usage)

While I know you probably have about a million other things to take care off, I'd still like to make a request. When I log in with my pc (which has a widescreen monitor) all artwork (at the loading screens) is stretched. I think it should be really easy to solve this by adding some more image resolutions. Perhaps you could even consider to add some more artwork, since the loading images have been around for as least as I have.

Another thing: I had to manually change the hud resolution. This is because it's not possible to change the hud resolution in-game. The hud is stretched out if you don't manually change the resolution. This too should be relatively easy to fix.

Finally: while the main hud theme was sufficient two years ago, it's terribly outdated. If you take a look at one of LordSpidey's newer themes, you see a much more polished look. You could at least include one of them (I'm just he will give his permission) and add a theme option, which will probably not be much work either..

AFAIK the only images which are stretched at widescreen resolutions are the loading screen, the image when you start VO up, and the energy/speed bars, because their sizes are all based on a percentage of the width of your screen, IIRC.

yea i tried to mess with the contents of media.rlb to put my own stuff in there but failed :/

twould be nice if the devs opened up some of the vo art,
but i can understand why they wont do it.

The artwork isn't really the issue. This should be handled programmatically. Otherwise, you need a different resolution texture for every possible videocard/monitor aspect combination in existence (some are 16:9, some 16:10, some narrower, and so on).

Not yet, I need to talk to Ray about some implementation options tonight. Friday was rather busy with the whole demand-change thing.

Well, it's good to hear that you're taking this seriously. I think that solving these minor issues would make the game seem much more polished to people with widescreen monitors (which I guess are a growing group of gamers).

We're looking at a bunch of changes related to widescreen usage, to hopefully polish things up. Including (but not limited to), the scaling stuff discussed above, default FOV changes, default HUD scaling, and detecting the desktop resolution and offering it as the starting res for new client installs (attempting to get native screen res).

Not exactly sure when they'll all drop in, but within the next few weeks I imagine.
