Hello all! New VO player here.

Hello Vendetta Online! I'm a new player and I thought I'd drop a quick line and say 'hi' to everyone. I'm half-way through my trial time and I'm already sold! My hat's off to the 4(!) devs of this game. As a concept its nearly perfect and in practice, well, its good. So far I'm enjoying everything from the graphics to the universe to the flight model. Quite frankly, I'm shocked that I didn't discover VO years ago. I regularly search for good space games and last week was the first I had even heard of it... I'm glad it came up (better late than never right?).

I'm not going to be overzealous and flood my first post with suggestions or anything but what this game really needs is seamless planetary landing from space!! Okay, don't have a heart attack or flame the crap out of me, I'm just kidding ;) I really like the 'work-in-progress' mentality of this game and I will say that I am especially looking forward to the (eventual) huge explorable galaxy, so expect several suggestions from me on that topic in the proper venue later.

Anyway, I'll stop taking your time so we can all get back to the game. If you see Jorin Saari in-game feel free to say 'hi' (with text not your guns, if you please)!

Until next time!

Oh, one more thing. This is probably an extreme newb question, but is it normal for beginning courier missions to want me to go all the way from Eo to Jallik? I can't seem to get halfway without being caught in an ion storm and blown away by some hive assault ship... Good thing ships are so cheap!

Welcome to VO :).

Yes, the current Courier missions do have you going through some distance. I just wrote those a few weeks ago, and I'm still in the process of sorting out and improving the whole "new user experience" to keep stuff like this from being too sudden/overwhelming for new people.

If you find the jump-out point of an ion storm, and start turbo'ing (tab) towards it right away, you can usually avoid most of the angry bots.

You can also plot your own route, if you want, and take jumps that don't cross over asteroid fields.. ion storms only tend to appear near asteroids. This isn't a sure way to avoid storms (some "empty" appearing sectors actually have asteroids), but it can help a lot.

Again, welcome to the game, glad you're enjoying it.

Howdy. I totally agree on the planet idea, in fact I think Inc said something about that very idea being implemented in the next release?

See how it is done in Spore... :-) I kind of like that.

What is spore?

Oh yeah, welcome to VO ;) I will shoot you, but also I answer questions sometimes too!

It's mind boggling, sometimes folk who have been playing years suggest to newbs that on the "around the.. never mind :P

If you take the Around the Universe mission, and it does not end? Try jump to an empty sector, and back to the station that it told you to.

It's amazing the amount of people that try to give advice, I have to say, but 9 times out of 10, people who try advise on this stuff aint even run through the new tutorials themselfs, they are all like "Uhum, restart the mission?"

Thats what puts new players off, not me hunting them.

[end of rant]

Spore is another word for "the reason EA is now facing a class-action lawsuit".

On the upside, maybe it'll be the end of SecuROM. Anyway, this is all off-topic of welcoming DJRastaMonkey to the game.

Odd, my Coworker just said the same thing yesterday when I was showing off the game to him. Jorin Saari you say? well i'll be nice the first time we cross paths... maybe. :D

welcome to VO, may you find a home here among the stars and over inflated egos! hehehe

Welcome to VO there DJRastaMonkey. Name's Almighty Bob in game. Hope you keep having fun and stick around for awhile.

BTW, ditto on Bobsin and DJRastaMonkey comment about wondering why I hadn't discovered VO till this year. They just don't spend much on advertising and marketing. Kind of a pass it along, word of mouth that this is a good space mmo thing.

Well, someday the devs will break open the box and release a surge of ads upon the web. I believe their current stance is "We need to put more nifty things in VO before advertising formally." After all, a huge surge in player numbers means an equally huge surge in time spent dealing with player issues, which is fun for nobody. Personally, I'd much rather have them working on nifty things than having to wade through a daily backlog of complaints, misunderstandings, and general BAWWWW that a huge playerbase tends to bring. Besides, the more things they do right now, the better it will be for everyone in the long run.

Yeah, so much for advertising this summer!

I'm ready to help with ads when they start advertising, however.
