Thurs early-afternoon outage, for those who noticed
We had a breaker blow at our office today (which has never happened before), taking down some non-mission-critical servers. Unfortunately, due to some unforeseen secondary effects, it eventually resulted in downtime for the primary website, several hours later. Additionally, since we're still working on some failover issues with the Linux update client, Linux-based players may have been unable to connect for a few hours.
We've since redistributed our server load across additional electrical circuits, to try and keep this from happening in the future.
As irritating as this sort of outage is for us (and you), it is useful for showing up areas where added redundancy and resiliency are needed. On the upside, the game continued running fine, aside from the issues impacting Linux people. This was a good real-world test of our relatively new updater hot-failover, but unfortunately there were still some known problems on the Linux platform.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

Hehe, good thing I'm on a Mac, and don't have time to play anyway!
While I agree both are good things, I don't see how they are related.
Thanks for the hands up. Yesterday I also had problems connecting to the server, but fortunately only for a few minutes. :)
Good to know what happened, as I was affected by the outage. Is there an easy way to bypass the Linux updater?
yes vardonx, start the vendetta binary in the hidden ~/.vendetta directory. Worked for me yesterday.
