Staleness

Admit it, Vendetta is getting stale. Eventually, people are going to stop playing. My thoughts on this issue? We need a major new gameplay feature (primitive mission system, primitive character advancement, ect.) fast. Well, 1-1.5 months fast. I'd be intrested to see if the devs ARE currently working on something like this.

Read the "In Progress"

Get a life, this is not a game played for enjoyment. It's a test being run to sort out issues as the engine develops.

Or you could NOT go off on him.....

I happen to agree, between the cheap @-Holes and the fact that there is really nothing to do other than kill or get killed.... Vendetta is getting boring..

Not really. I find a steady diet of capping, pirating, trading and fireworks makes for a happy engine testing.

I agree, but I read the "In Progress" and it seems they are working on it. I can't wait!

Hey, but just THINK! Use your brains!
Imagine how skilled we will be when the FINAL game is released!
Huh? We'll KICK ass! We'll own stations and control empires!
Drive 'round in battleships! Now aien't that worth it!?

Cheers!

Heh, well, we are only human. If we had the budget of Valve or id, Vendetta would be done by now. ;)

The developers are doing a fantastic job and I'm in this till the end. If you don't like helping out the make this game the best ever then I suggest you find something else to do. I'm not doing this for the highest score or to feed my ego. I'm doing this because I love the concept of the game and once it's finished it will blow the others out of the water. Right now there is nothing out there that even comes close to what this will be when it's finished.

Just my 2¢ worth :-)

the continuous problem of a in-developement game.....

as i know you didn't paid to play this game so you have NOTHING to ask to devs... if they wanna wait 8 months to make the new realese.... they can do it...

it's actually free so just be glad to play it or go get another game....

Be happy you got devs that WORK on the game, I used to play a game where they would only release a new version like once a year. And it would barely even add anything.
Jul 05, 2003 Urza link
p, do you intend to play again when obie goes public, or do you think jinker has banned you for that little "stunt"?

on topic: If racing is added, i'll be all over that. i'll race anyone!

I got banned Sam, It might be lifted once 018 is out though.

Yes, Vendetta is getting stale...I'm giving it time though.

Trading, fireworks, and piracy are three of the most boring things I can think of...how can you stand it roguelazer?

"I got banned Sam, It might be lifted once 018 is out though."

What da? You must've been the first person ever banned from Vendetta.
How the hell did you manage that?
Jul 06, 2003 roguelazer link
They're talking about another game, not Vendetta.

I don't know if it would be fair to say stale, to me, it seems that every time they release an update which changes weapon balance and ship performance a whole host of new possibilities opens up to the player. The continual progression of the game constantly renews my interest, it can only get better with missions, npc, doodahs and wotsits in the future (yes you did read that right).

I agree with most of you, I was simply pointing out that people who are just playing it for the game (myself NOT included), are going to get bored and thus lose them as testers, remember to fully test a game, the more variety the better. I also disagree with tracid, we are here to test a game, play, find bugs, and make suggestions. Without user input the Devs won't know what the general populus wants to get out of the game.

Well, testing is more of a bug fixing thing then anything else--glitches and balance issues. But this game is so raw, balance isn't even a real concern because you can't balance untill ALL your features are in, since one new feature changes balance, and there's LOTS more features coming in.

Feature sets, on the other hand, must come from the designers' mind's eye--every feature must fit within their percieved vision for the game. As soon as you start openly taking feature requests, you run into the famous "feature bloat" and you never get to publish anything of quality.

So, we really are just here for the bug hunt. We're not even doing load testing, since the hardware running the server won't be part of a final release.
Jul 08, 2003 a1k0n link
Good point, but the load testing is definitely part of this. Having the benchmark "how many users can we get to run on a pentium3/450" is quite instructive even though we will be using better hardware in the future.

Yes, I think it's fair to say the game is stale. Sorry about that. But now we're entering another phase of development (just like what happened before 3.2) and we're going to break an awful lot of stuff, and once it's fixed again there will be a new level of complexity in the game, which hopefully will translate into a more fun (at the very least, less repetitive and pointless) virtual environment to spend time in.
