Regarding 100

Jun 29, 2008 Trinexx link
First of all, 100 is "General Chat". Not "Topics you Approve of and Nothing Else". Meaning stop whining about people talking about stuff other than VO over 100. SOME of us want to see something other than "gf" spam and the occasional "DAMN STORMS" drifting over 100. So until 100 is renamed to "VO-Only Chat", stop griping about it when people discuss something else.

The people that bitch and moan about this are the same people who rant about BSG for hours on end, not to mention the civil war topic that cropped up tonight. So stop using "talk about vo on here only" as an excuse. Everybody knows that what you really mean is "Stop discussing stuff I'm too intellectually shallow to comprehend."

The second demographic I'd like to piss off tonight are the "z0mg B& relay pl0x" people. FiReMaGe busted his ass to code the relay, and from what I've seen the devs support the idea. Until that changes, I want you to type "/ignore IRC". Now shut the hell up about it.

</rant>

I have no idea what you're talking about "z0mg B& relay pl0x" people, but I second the first part of your rant. Even Languatron should be able to say what he wants on 100 unless you choose to /ignore him (I thought of that as you mentioned BSG rants).

Some people don't like the relay. They're of the opinion that if you want to talk to VO, you should be in VO.

Quite frankly, my opinion is that if the devs didn't like the relay, it wouldn't be there.

Gotcha. I don't mind it at all, I think it's great that people can be connected to the community even if they aren't able to actually be in-game at the moment for whatever reason.

Yeah, the thing about it is that people can sit on their 'high horse' and not be harmed, or /ignored without screwing it over for everyone.

Sounds like a job for a creative plugin writer to implement a /ircignore for people who want to /ignore only certain people on IRC

Never bothered me though, so I won't be writing one.

If FiReMaGe would opensource the relay, I'd do it myself... (psst, FM... hint hint)

Also, zamzk, removing the relay altogether would do the exact same thing, only to EVERYBODY.

I said that, Trinexx. The only viable solution I can really think of, is what Steve does, only implemented into the UI.

For the long term, if the devs plan to allow IRC, this is going to be fundamental. Or else people can just sit up there and /msg spam and long with hordes of other nasty stuff.

Heck, it could be done on vrelay's end, allowing for IP ignores/mutes (So you not only ignore the SC, but the player)

Huh?

Regarding 100 in general, well, I tend to talk about whatever I feel like talking about. That tends to be VO cos i'm in VO, but I have never seen anyone tell someone to change the subject, unless its getting rude, or political. If some people are talking about things I do not want to listen to, I will /ignore them. So yeah, I agree with that.

As for IRC, huh? I know that a few things have happened recently via the relay that have been nothing but trolling, and smak talking, and IMHO, if you are going to troll, or call other players names, come in game and do it (The relay was not made for smak talk, political debate or trolling). But apart from these *few* folk, I have no problems with IRC.

Likewise, I was just commenting that eventually that some form of action will have to take place. It wasn't entirely on topic.

Sorry.

I've seen the phenomenon that yoda's referring to, but the response to said phenomenon is little more than a reductio ad absurdum. "A few people like to troll from IRC, so we must STOP THE RELAY BEFORE THE TROLLS TAKE OVER!". Keep a close eye on it, us relay folk like to tell them to STFU too.

Regarding 100, I've seen a couple of people whine whenever the topic wasn't something they enjoyed, so they griped about "This is VO chat, not random chat."

I can think of a few occasions, but I'd have to dig into logs to find it. Just tried to, but my brain is cooked right now from lack of sleep, so I didn't have any luck.

Not only do we like to do it, but we very frequently do do it -- we just don't always do so through the relay, instead chewing them out IRC-side in #vrelay.

There's a separate vote mute for individual IRC users, and it's a good deal easier to apply than in game vote mute.

Oh , just /leave 100.

Enjoy the tranquility of deep space, listen to the sounds around you .

The gentle rustle of the drifting space debris, the sonorous humming of the big rocks, the effervescent bubble of the ice yo, the aged creaking of bone roids, the distant twittering and chirping of collectors as they frolic in the weak sunlight ........

... the blood boiling thrill of Ecka saying "Just do it".
Jun 30, 2008 Professor Chaos link
Or just the sounds of your ship, since that's all that's going to get to your ears in space. Too bad real space isn't as poetic as sci-fi space....

Bonus points for use of the word "frolic," though. And "effervescent."

Is Ecka being payed to advertise for Nike I wonder still. :P
