VO 1.8.21
*** Vendetta 1.8.21
- Voice Chat options menu now allows you to select your
playback and capture devices.
- Linux version now always tries ALSA first, regardless of
audio settings
- Players are properly kicked out of restricted chat
channels
lua interface updates:
- bitlib.band, bor, bxor, bnot, lshift, rshift, arshift
- Third argument to SendChat can be channel id when 2nd arg is
"CHANNEL"
Major addition: You can now select input and output devices for Voice Chat. This should make it easier to select a mic device other than the "default", for instance, a USB headset. This should also make it possible to have sound/music playback on speakers, while keeping voice chat on a headset.
Please let us know of any bugs/issues that crop up. Thanks.

Well... I turned on voice chat, and my audio output behaved erratically (it turned down the game sounds, probably to make the spoken message clearer... only there was none). I know I did not 'push to talk', but is it possible that escort group members interfere with voice chat? I noticed it during an escort mission, which is why I'm writing this. Will test more solo.
Whoops, I tried to enable Voice Chat and it promptly crashed to my desktop. Bug report's been sent. Only in-game clue that something was up was the "error: device scan failed" in all the recording and playback selection boxes. Just plain avoiding the voice chat options keeps the game running.
Now, who told you about my singing? It's really not that bad, the casualties were fairly low every time!

Ugh... the audio still isn't fixed for G4 Powerbooks

VO crashes for me when I try to open voice chat options menu... nothing useful appears in error log, only list of ALSA devices that voice chat plugin detected...
Ok, on leopard , I can set the vo sound to speakers externally from vo , then select headset for input and output from the voice chat panel within vo .
There appears to be a problem with the saving of the settings from voice chat . The enable ptt tick box shows a white highlight all the time , even if the mouse is not over it . I can tick or untick the box , but on returning to vo ptt does not work . If I go back into voice chat panel, it has lost the fact that I had previously enabled ptt.
(/lua command does set it, just found that out )
Chat appears to work on voice trigger, for a few mins , then stops . Perhaps related to the settings thing , since the mic agc setting isn't saved either.
The sound ducking level isn't being saved either , seems stuck at the level selected before the update.
Hope that helps.

ThinkHen: there's a problem on G4 powerbooks? Is there a thread somewhere on the Mac or Bugs forum about this?
Toshiro: It sounds like you had Voice Auto Detection triggering based on ambient sounds around your microphone. You have to enable PTT, the default is not to use it, but to use the configured input level instead. See the Help for the voice chat options menu.
Everyone else: please keep the reports coming, we'll check into this as soon as possible.

incarnate, I'll try that. But actually, ptt was enabled, or rather, should have been, I suspect I was runing into the same problem as Ecka, me using Leopard, as well.
The only setting that stays is the checked box if you want it to be enabled or if it's not checked to not be enabled.
Opening the voice chat menu crashes me too.

My VoiceChat isnt working :(
It worked before, but with the new update it stopped.

Shadoen: what platform? OS/hardware config/etc?
My voice chat is also not working after this update. I thought it was maybe something I did, as I just re-did my box with Debian. Have not had a chance to test Doze yet.
Using ALSA now instead of Pulse, but pretty much every thing else is the same. (I seem to transmit *something* but this is either not received or is badly garbled, and could hear only 1 person in the 5 man group).

I'm using Windows, Inc.
The problem seems to be the PTT that gets disabled everytime I close the VoiceChat menu.
I solved it with the /lua VoiceChat.SetPTTMode(true)
But I have to do it everytime I log in, so it's a bit annoying :/

From my poking around (also posted as a bug report) the only things that seem to get reset when opening the Voice Chat Options window are the Transmission level and the PTT checkbox. If you change, for instance, the Playback level, it will remain where you put it. However, if you then reload (log off and on, /lua ReloadInterface(), change to windowed/fs mode, etc.) all the levels will be reset. (I checked that Sound Ducking remains where you put it, but I didn't check that it resets on reload, I'm just assuming that it follows the same behaviour as the Playback level) I'm on Leopard, for what it's worth.
O, I'm still using Tiger (I wish dad would upgrade...) and you're right about those being the only things that change.
im getting the same problem as diqrtvp but im running doze
