Ok, there's a new Advanced Combat Training mission that builds off of the first one, and a new general training mission. Please let me know how they work. I just finished the general training one.. right now, so.. yeah.
Will get right on it Inc!
Basic Flight Status could use some re-wording in places, the instruction to "Dock with "Sector"" Should read "Dock with the station in "Sector"" ;)

Oh, woops. Well, it's probably less confusing than it was before, anyway. I'll fix that soon.
The uhh.. Training Part VI or whatever is the new one. where you follow a capship around. Tried to intro some of the more interesting areas of the game in an in-context type manner. Was kind of written in a hurry though.
[EDIT]: I just played through this mission perfectly, but then someone else had it stall and needed to abort. Wish I knew why was stalling. It may have something to do with when you jump.. not sure. If anyone discovers any way of reproducing problems, please let me know.

The Galaxy tour Taining iv was interesting both my wife and duaghter thought it helped them better understand they also like the new training missions too.

Edit the only problem they had with it was at the time 100 was a little active so they had some diff. in reading. partly due to english is a second language but if 100 is busy would definitly give new players hard time to read

The Vult training that is a great idea. Helps new players to learn so many aspects.

Ok, created a trial1ac, and worked through training. Good stuff .
1. Noticed a few places where esc to is used . Maybe put all instances of esc in "" to keep the same format as other keys .
2. Training 3 and 4 didn't seem to have a complete mission button , of it rolled down off the screen . May just be me .
3. The new training 6 worked fine for me, good mission idea, but I'd agree with chana , the text could get lost on 100. May be an idea to automatically /leave 100 , and have the captain say " use pg up/ dn , if you miss anything "
4. Advanced combat 2 worked fine .
5. A new player looking at the mission board sees mission in order as flight test / killing spree / prosp /scrap / trade guild , then training 1 - 6 .
Would it be possible to make them appear in order as training 1 - 6 / flight test /combat training 1 -2 , with the others not appearing until flight test has been done ?
We regularly see new players jumping straight into flight test , killing spree or scrap , then effectively have to go through training 1-6 manually on 100....
Anyway , generally good progress.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO! It breaks Pirate toolkit?
NOOO!
NOOO!
I have that fixed. see the thread in community forums. I also have included a fixed version to download.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'll see what I can do to incorporate some of this stuff. I can definitely force new people to go through the entire training, but I have no direct control over their channels.. I could ask them to /leave it, though, and then /join it later. Hmm, dunno.
Technically this coms problems needs to be addressed for everyone in the game because if we have large numbers of people online and all chatting on 100 then things could/would/will get nasty with all that chatter and everything will get lost.
One suggestion is maybe for the short term fix move it off the coms dialog and on the lower or middle of the HUD.
Sorting the missions so the training missions are first on the list is workable and a good idea.

I am starting a UI suggestions thread that incorporates my thoughts on this 100-spam vs mission objectives problem..

Traditionally, the mission log is there so that mission objectives are recorded, and can be referred to. This mission is unique in that the majority of the information doesn't grace the mission log. Thus, to fix the mission would be something like "The Captain's words are important, so we're going to have the mission log automatically capture what he says, but that doesn't mean you can just space off." and stuff. Redoing the UI isn't necessary, as it already was 'pre'done to address this very issue. Anyone remember mission chat? @
Yes, in most of my other missions that use dialogue, I mirror it over to the mission log as well. In this case, it was kind of a pain in the ass, and I didn't have time. I'll see about adding that, though.
I'm not all that concerned about a massive influx of people making channel 100 noisy, either.. we'll just back off to mostly using system chat, and rate limit 100 (but I'm still open to ideas and suggestions, like break19's).

I was on another game the other night that had no spam limiter or /ignore function. It was a well-funded game too. It was REALLY annoying. It made me appreciate what we have here.
Did the Training VI mission yesterday, and the 100 spam was a bit of an issue, as I had to keep scrolling back the window to read what the captain said. All in all, I found it informative, and having one of the other rookie NPC pilots forget how to jump for a moment made me crack a smile- it was a nice touch.
However, I also came across a functional oddity that might need addressing- while hopping sectors, we jumped into one that had hive presence. This in and of itself was odd, as the entire presence consisted of a single Orun Collector that just sat in space, doing nothing. I jetted over, stared at it for a bit, then blew it up. Nothing else jumped in, so it may have just been a lost bot. Still, it may be a good idea to make sure that the destination sectors are really empty before sending the new players in.
Edit: Whoops, forgot my hat. And the details on when/where/who-done-what for the collector, with channel chat cut out:
[05/26/08 11:01:59] You are entering Dau E-5
[05/26/08 11:02:08] **Bak Dokas* So anyway, you three, be careful around storm sectors and the Hive, and stick to nation space until you learn a bit more about combat and things.
[05/26/08 11:02:16] **Bak Dokas* You can also find introductory missions at certain station types. For instance, major training missions are almost always at the major Capitol stations, which you can see in their extended description if you mouse-over them in the Nav interface
[05/26/08 11:02:23] **Bak Dokas* But mining missions are mostly posted to Mining stations, and the like. So on with Reseach, Military/Barracks stations, etc.
[05/26/08 11:02:29] **Bak Dokas* Hmm, just a moment.. we may have some company arriving.
[05/26/08 11:02:46] **Bapemu Rostra* Hello, *Bak Dokas, we're your relief. You should be receiving new orders shortly.
[05/26/08 11:02:54] **Bak Dokas* Affirmative, I'm seeing them come through now. Well then, IRS, *Tapetaka Ratras, *Prapeka Viko, I'm afraid we'll have to cut this lesson short.
[05/26/08 11:03:02] **Bak Dokas* I wish you guys the best of luck. The universe is an amazing place, just be cautious. And on that note, I'm off..
[05/26/08 11:03:14] **Badirona Vistrasen* Ok, *Bapemu Rostra, we're ready to move to our next sector as well.
[05/26/08 11:03:18] IRS destroyed *Orun Collector XX-0598c
[05/26/08 11:03:22] **Bapemu Rostra* Roger that. You three new pilots, you should probably head back to Dau L-10, Dau Senate now.
[05/26/08 11:03:35] *Bapemu Rostra jumped to Dau System, Sector O-6
[05/26/08 11:03:38] *Rak Kavos jumped to Dau System, Sector O-6

That collector might have been left over from another training mission that hadn't yet completed. I'll double check my bot-cleanup stuff. The bots will always be cleaned up when the mission ends, but sometimes that can take awhile.
Hey Inc, I ran into a suggestion.
Maybe make all PCC folk able to take the *new training stuff* without having to make a new char/kill an alt ;)

Whistler, what were you doing playing another game? Shame on you!
