Nice work, although I'm not so fond of the [] thing. It adds unnecessary clutter to the ship purchase pane, a different color for the ships prices would be easier on the eyes methinks.

amotoma, what color and if not [] then what?

Neon pink, and the price should look like this:
****GREATDEAL$$1470ACTNOWALLMODELSMUSTGOSAVESAVESAVE!!!!1!!1!

who reads the prices anyway? most people just click "BUY" since money is not really a question in VO..

How about green? And maybe red for those rare occurrences when you cant afford to buy the ship you want. What I suggest is that if there's a different color on the price of the ships from the regular white ship names, there doesn't have to be any []

Amotoma, I did some experimenting with colors but every one of them seemed to be distracting and overpowering, so we settled with the [] in the standard color. I did add some extra spacing to set it off which did seem to work.

It was not so much a question of can't afford because the entire line would be in red if that was the case. The problem came up was WHAT is the buy price. confusion as to where and all. Many people those those xxxc numbers were part of the ship model and/or name but not the price.

Not everyone can immediately start playing and be able to click on every item and buy it. We can not just say why bother because money is readily available because we have to think about the new players and that is where expansion and growth occurs at. The moment you forget the new players and their experience is the moment things start going downhill and growth/expansion is not possible anymore.

I will look further at the color suggestion and play around with several options to see what happens and post a new thread here to get everyone's input on it.

well, if you say so. I consider myself beeing a newbie and I played just a few "days" after all and I never had problem getting the price ;)

Seems like the best solution for station prices would be to simply add in the "official" galactic currency symbol. Heck, maybe it could be []! Have those nice twin brackets there, always reminding you that should you ever run out of credits, that's what your wallet will look like.

Yeah I was one of those who thought the prices were ship model numbers at first hehe, so that's why I would like to see a more intuitive way of reading and understanding that pane quickly.
I know nothing of programming but played around a little with PS and came up with this:

maybe something like that could be an option?

That would be more of a matrix and may be the best.

fyi this is a matrix.

except in this case it would have 2 columns: ship name, ship price. Line highlighting would show both columns and the heading would be anchored at the top.

The goal is to get areas to stand out and be noticed and not blend in with everything which will get lost and overlooked.

That's the one Moda, the matrix has me :) Clear and easy to read.

Maybe VO should ask, "what do you think this ship is worth?" and you set your own price. Then everyone can feel good about themselves.
