New VO plugins/skins site! Your views wanted (if you wouldn't mind)!

Ok.. so the site is going to be a community dump of all the plugins and themes I can find/you can give me. It'll be a simple site but I thought it might help people to have some way to search through the available addons. I've purchased the webspace and now I need to know afew things I could probably work out on my own but thought it would be better if the community decided (for the community by the community?). So here goes...

- What domain name should be used?

- Would developers mind submitting their own plugins?

- Would the community mind clicking a google ad every time they download a plug/skin or once a visit to keep the site running?

- What technologies are out of the question for cross compatibily? (Does css work in text based browsers etc?)

Thanks in advanced. I hope this will become a useful tool to the community.

^o) does vo-wiki have one of these?

I for one certainly cannot find it...

EDIT: I found the skins area but it has this notice at the top...

Outdated page.

"Skins" contains information that is outdated. Please bring the article's information up to date and remove this notice.

and I believe this warrants it's own site anyway (no offense to vo-wiki - the best vo site there is).

Also, there being so few vo fansites doesn't show new players how loved the game is by its players and im going to start work on a cross platform plugin installer for the nubs :)

Just go ahead and make it, if its clean and usable, then people will use it. If you make it a public/semi-monitored archive, so folk can upload their own skins (maybe you would need to approve them, to stop fake files) then I am sure it would be used. (A nice clean, vo centric website would be a lot nicer than putfile or megaupload...)

I guess when the devs give the green light for advertising, a LOAD of fan created sites will spring up. There are quite a few already, they are just not well advertised.

A good place to start with the cataloging would be the plugins thread.

There's a bunch of useful stuff in there, but its a pain to dig through it all. If you made a searchable site it'd be great. Maybe even give each plugin its own page so a screen shot could be uploaded along side its description.

Kind of like this

ok thankyou very much yoda, thats the second peice of encouragement I've had lol. Righty ho I've get going then :) I've decided to call it vo-plugins.com btw, will update this thread when its finished.

EDIT: Thanks iry, that was my plan and the awkwardness of the thread and the other ways to get plugins was a main reason for starting the site.

Hahaha, spine.
Now you know how I felt when I started "vendetta-racing-league.com"

But anyhoo, yeah I say go make your website. What the hell, you already have the bandwidth, right? If nothing else we'll use it for uploading funny pics.

My suggestion? Make it like sourceforge.net

thanks for the support guys! :D I tell you what... I suggest abit of 'open development' basiclyi'll cont nue to work on the site and you guys can have a look and say what you like... and don't like (here I think would be appropriate).

The address is....

www.vo-plugins.com

I've done something alittle differently than how I normally make a site - I've used a cms (joomla... i'm normally a notepad/gedit/TextEdit guy lol). But i'm pretty sure joomla can deliver the tools we needi. If not, say so here and i'll scrap it and notepad it.

(yes I know the current theme has 'joomla!' at the top, themes are the last thing i'll change.)

Thanks for support :)

WARNING: The site is early alpha - don't expect things to work lol

Very nice indeed lord~spidey! /impressed!

That's a great layout!

I've hit abit of a rock of joomla and I'm looking into a smaller CMS and write all the code in php (anyone suggest a nice one?)

But anyway, I was thining - instead of us both running concurrent pages surely it would be better to do a collaboration? We could both have an admin account and equal control etc. We could host on my space and domain and write the code and implement together?

My plan with this project was always for it to be a community effort and what better way to achieve that than with a collaboration? But feel free to decline the offer, it is not a problem.

Look forward to hearing from you.
