Are you saying they need to be STRONGER?
Are you trying to destroy Vendetta?
Jun 29, 2003 The Kid link
no I'm saying they should actually go after the capper.

Intelligence and weapons are two different things.

They are stupid, they get there skill from stuff we can't buy.

Defense bots need to keep constantly selecting the nearest target. Otherwise they can be easily distracted. In addition to that, the defense turrets need to STAY PUT to their spawning location. Enemies often switch nations to push turrets around to a place where they can't be harmful.

Defense turrets should fly back if they are pushed too far.

I completely agree that the ds bots should be smarter. But if they become smarter then they should not be given all the amazing advantages over players. The fun of MMOLRPGs is competing with people, not against bots. With the universe as small as it is now, and flag capping playing the role it does having 4 sectors with uber ships is annoying and limiting. I think they should be put there in later versions so that noobs have some protection, but removed or toned down for the time being.

I don't think it's a good idea to have the def bots track the nearest target. You could easily confuse them using two players. I would suggest that def bots do not chase somebody who already has a bunch of bots at his ass. If somebody caps, all bots should go after him. On the other hand, the bots are really too well armed. There is no way to really kill them by the numbers. Please reduce the engine and the weapons, its just insane the way it is right now. Before we figured out the distracting trick an armada of 15 players couldn't beat the bots. Also, I really think the bots should have some environmental awareness system that is closer to that of humans. For example, bots are able to immediatly distinguish an enemy nation ship from regular (sort of hostile too) bots. Thats not fair, humans cannot see that on the radar (well, maybe with the u key or so). If something is just a red dot on the radar for us, so should it be for the bots. And if you are too far away for the radar, bots shouldn't see us either. Just even the play field. AIs should emulate humans, not be uber-players.

Hehe removeing the bots is a bad idea, trust me on this.

I don't trust you.
I don't think pulling the bots back out for now is a bad idea, but it's not the best one.

At least gimpify them a bit. I don't even wander into outter home sectors anymore...which really limits where you can go in the game. They're a bit too uber IMO, not to mention that they camp the warp gates like pirates ;)

Heh, Nytemayre, you just can't stand to have any competition in your pirating career.
Jun 30, 2003 Nytemayre link
hey now! 0xD is no pirate. And if he WAS, he'd give you a better chance than those bots do =P
Jun 30, 2003 WatercooledCT link
sure sure. that's like saying that you are less of a pirate than Uncle Dave. :) at least he admits to it.
You're some sort of a closet pirate

/me tries to stop himself from going off topic.....and fails

When's the last time someone saw OxD attack someone (not counting flag caps)?

==laughs== calm down, I'm just f-king with you
Jun 30, 2003 The Kid link
taking bots out is not a good idea at all... the POSSIBLE downgrade I can think of is engines and to blue ions.

If I were to change the defense bots (I'm not a dev, so that doesn't mean much) I would change them like this:

1) Make them MUCH smarter
2) Keep weapons the same
3) Keep the agility to same
4) Give them a slight speed disadvantage. They should more or less stay put (they're guards, after all) and it would be logical: They get uber-weapons and uber-AI in exchange for slower speed.

...in other words, make them hard to beat in a fight, but easier to disengage from.
