Not sure what the problem is, I downloaded the client from the Vendetta site and installed.

All firewall software turned off

And I get "Unable to connect go guild update software server" as soon as I try to start the client.

I can ping update.guildsoftware.com and I can also telnet to the port 21024 on that machine.

I'd like to give this game a go, but if I can't even start it up...

Do you have a router, and if so, do you have a firewall built into it?

You might want to check that your Windows firewall is really turned off. It's famous for magically being enabled even though it was manually disabled - sometimes you have to do it twice.

Re-boot seemed to clear it up. I could ping, and my browser and teamspeak were connecting to the net, but both The Vendetta client and Winamp thought I was not on the net.

Guess thats &*(^*&ing windows for you.

I'm downloading the Linux client now (I feel so dirty when I have to run Windoze).
