hive queens bugged?

Mar 21, 2008 tonybodnaruik link
I tried to kill my 1st queen on a skirmish and i followed to way instructions of the wiki to the letter....with the missiles and it didn't do jack shit. the queen moved around but the shields never fell....on top of that their was a frigate shooting at her also. So like r hive queens fucking unbeatable or what cause 80 chaos missiles and like 56 gemeni missiles didn't do shit. also i unloaded all of them with 5 seconds.

The wiki instructions might be a bit out of date. Hive Queens are stronger than they used to be, and their strength is based on the number of outlying sectors they control. Soling them may not be possible, without reducing their support? Not sure.

You should be using chaos swarms and suns, for starters. Also, don't have the queen targeted: the swarms need to launch like rockets.

Actually, ever since that update which changed the way swarms where launched from a ship, with each missile spread apart instead of close together, the non targeting stacking method got somewhat harder.

Tony, what you have to do is try having all of your missiles hit the queen at the same time. If you want to solo the queen, I´m not sure I remember the missile stacking method, but it went something like this:

1. Boost 1800m away from the queen.
2. Shoot the first volley of swarms (Either targeting her or not), then boost towards the queen until you catch up with the first volley you shot and maintain a constant velocity to stay with it (About 100-120m/s).
3. When you have caught up to to it, always maintaining a constant velocity, shoot volley after volley of swarms.

If you do it correctly they should hit the queen at relatively the same time as a large dense bulk of missiles, inflicting a lot of damage.
Someone correct me if I was wrong somewhere.

When the queen shield is at 100% and not 200% as it sometimes is, a ragnorak equipped with 3 HX Plasma Cannons and 2 Chaos Swarms will drop a queens shield at small range as long it is timed right without the queen turning at the last moment causing the missiles to take longer to hit. After the shields have dropped you can commence a long range assault with the HX for they have a range slightly under 1000m.

Of course this can be hard to do in Hive Skirmish missions with overseers guarding the queen or a lone queen with its escort (killing the escort solves that problem).

Well, both static and dynamic queens can be taken all energy , but there is a bit of a knack to it ....
In the case of the dynamic hive , kill all the supporting sectors first . Note that not all supporting sectors show up at the same time , and that a supporting hs sector may be in an adjacent system . If in doubt follow the bots as they jump out . Once the critical sector is isolated , stack the fire from a spam or all energy rag on the queen .

For the static hive , just kill the escorts . Choose a moment as the queen turns towards you , a triple hx twin mega heavy batt rag 3 will knock out the shields at minimum expense .

Not easy , but rewarding when you get it right .

I'm going to bump this and add that when there are multiple dynamic queens in a system (3 "Critical" locations, in particular) they seem to count as support systems for one another. That is, having on multiple occasions soloed a queen after destroying all support systems, I know it can be done without real trouble. However, having rid the system of all small, common, and large hive sectors, leaving only three criticals, the queen's shields regenerate just too fast for swarms/flares to take out. Can critical sectors counting as support for other critical sectors be eliminated?

They dont, rhapsody. Most likely there were supporting sectors in one of the other 2 systems associated with that hive, at a faction's stations you didn't check, or nearby but with no mission because the humans had recently lost.

What we really need is some way of finding out what supporting sectors remain for any given critical sector. The plan at the moment is to make collectors or some other hive bot shuttle back and forth so that you can watch for them leaving the critical sector. This is implemented, but there are a few things to fix/improve before it goes into production, and I've been sidetracked with some admin-tool work. Hopefully next week.

Is there a limit to the number of HS critical and supporting sectors that can spawn in a given system at any given time ?

I note that there are 5 HS critical sectors in Initros at the moment .

A graphic display showing which sectors support which queens on the nav map would be cool.
