pvp help?
Hello I have been playing the game for about 2 weeks now and I love it. Its all pretty good. My licence level is 6/7/7/6/4 and i plan to get them all to 10 in a month or 2. I did however have my first major pvp encounter today doing a bp involving drazed, harpo, spidersomthin, and a few other people. It was loads of fun but i died way more then anybody else and idk if that is due to my inexperience or am i not doing something right. currently i fly without auto assist and i turn mouse look off cause its distracting to me. Am i missing something or do i just need to practice more cause these other people killed me with ease every time. Any help would be aprishiated from anyone.
Ok, a few pointers . Firstly , BS is quite rightly a no holds barred all out war zone . Even experienced players get chewed up in there, so it isn't really a good place to learn pvp.
Find someone of your own nation in good standing . Go to a quiet sector and spend some time sparring, just shooting at each other without doing damage to get the feel of movement . No damage is done , but you can see when you land shots . You can learn a lot in half an hour of sparring that would take a lot longer to learn in real pvp.
Have a wander to Sedina b8 , and find someone to fight with 1v1 , or someone who wants to duel . Watch other folk fighting in there , its easier to see what is going on than in BS.
Try joining a suitable guild . More experienced members will be happy to help you with combat training.
Lastly remember that pvp is as much about not getting killed as it is about killing. Dodge continually. Fly small agile ships until you get used to heavies.

Excellent advice, davejohn. The most important thing to take away from all that is to find someone friendly to show you a few pointers and then practice, practice, practice. PvP combat in VO is almost an art and it can take a long time to become proficient at. The people you were dying against were all vets that have been playing VO for many months or even years.
There is a sticky thread where you can look for Mentors, use a search function and skim around for pvp. Or (linked there) perhaps peer at this wiki page:

Do note that not all of us who are listed as mentors are active.

That was a particularly brutal BP session.
SPIDER? Are you kidding me? You still browse the forums!?
No, I don't. It's a figment of your imagination, *waves hand and does the jedi mindtrick*
Spider who?
wha?
Only newbs do BP anyway, so anything you take away from there is going to be backrolling and awkward swarm-spam running.
