FrozenArmageddon: Who is wrong? Why post it here? If it was a small discussion on channel 100 in-game, shouldn't it be proven/disproven in-game? And download speeds vary depending on the service plan your internet service provider provides you.

What is a "turrent"?

The uTorrent program the devs suggested to use to download VO, may be what he was 'talking' about.

Ahhh, I capped my "turrent" to only 64kbps!

Sounds like a bad advert for Download Accelerator.

"turrents" must be what they do on "the internets" nowadays. :-)

Some ISPs (Comcast, et al) have been known to rate-shape BitTorrent traffic. Under these conditions, it's possible that a direct HTTP download could be faster. It's unfortunate (and kind of inane, to shape it in the downstream direction), but it happens. It is a minority case, however.

This is a general response, I'm not really sure what this thread is about. If the original implication is that HTTP or some "download accelerator" is faster that bittorrent on average, that's incorrect.

FYI Incarnate, comcast isn't 'known' to. They are actively doing this on purpose. 99% of the time if, they are doing this in your area or whatever, it's easier to do a direct download.

Which, is readily available from this website.

I know they actively do it on purpose. You don't "accidentally" rate-shape traffic based on flow or packet profile. I don't think I implied that, but company policies do shift with time and customer feedback (or loss of market share). Plus, it isn't always easy to tell if an ISP is rate-shaping or not, if the limits are reasonable.

And, yes, this is part of why we maintain direct download mirrors.
