That cap ship thing has a funky side effect.
I sometimes knock out the shields of the trident during hive skirmishes so that the hive bots can kill it.. because it's sitting in an inconvenient place or something.
The bots shooting at the trident deal a whole lot more damage than the rest, so they get prioritized by my allies.. resulting in large pile up of ships and lots of shooting around the trident, which looks pretty cool as if they are desperately trying to defend it.
