Trial expiration. Payment by Paypal

Feb 10, 2008 Gollux link
"Regardless, we have fronted you some free time (3 days), so you can play right away. But please keep this in mind for any future online purchases."

Is the above a service you could extend to me? Trial wil expire in 1.45Hrs, but would love to keep on playing until payment comes through. Wasn't aware it would take a few days.

Argh, thirty minutes left. . Doesn't anyone work on Sundays any more? Cruel, cruel world. ;-)

The minute I was disconnected because the trial ran out. I was a 'subscriber'. Thanks!!

Absolutely very nice.

gollux.. when payment comes through you will have your account that you were using

Your account will not be deleted. As it comes through with your payment you will be able to pick up right where you left off.

Interesting side effect though. I suppose you shouldn't have been disconnected.

I didn't get 'disconnected' the first time. They gave me a few extra days but alas, last Tuesday I got disconnected anyway. This time for longer. Read on IRC paybycrash payments can take up to a week! Which is, in my opinion, totally unacceptable for a web service. They're just cashing in on the interest. But devs did what they could. Can't expect them to keep the account going forever with only a mail from me with paypal details..

Anyway, I'll just have to wait.

hmm, an interest project for IT students , Calculate the value of the money in transit via the internet at any time . Does "money " which is in transit exist ? Illustrate your answer with diagrams , and if necessary cc bills.

10 marks

have marks been a valid currency since the french revolution?

10 , er thingies....

PayByCash is extra paranoid about PayPal, due to the unusual chargeback possibilities of the PayPal system. Credit cards all have chargeback limitations.. 6 months or something like that. I don't recall the specifics on PayPal, but I think they can magically make a payment "not have happened" several years after the fact.

Anyway, Gollux, you should be able to play again.

Very considerate, thanks. I was just wondering. Did you actually get the money? Or is it still being 'transferred'.
I noticed paybycash also accepting IDeal payments, which I'll try the next time. I'll make sure to make the transaction a week before it's actually needed though. Just in case..

No, I don't think we've actually received it yet. Although I'll have to check. We definitely haven't received the PBC confirmation yet.

A lot of it also has to do with paypal itself, rather than PBC, the eCheck transfers can take a week on their own. eChecks have a whole weird state of "you've received the money, but receipt hasn't actually been confirmed yet", and PayPal instructs merchants not to "ship" items or otherwise provide access until confirmation goes through. But, I think yours was an "instant transfer", to which that doesn't apply, so.. not sure.

Also, in PayByCash's defense, there's no positive motivation for them to delay on PayPal transactions.. the money goes directly from you to us, so it's not like they can play interest-rate speculator in between (PayPal could, arguably, but not PBC). The confirmation delay is just for actual human-being checking and approval to reduce fraud impact. The eCheck delays are similar, but on PayPal's end.. confirming the transaction between banks.

Well, you've received it \o/ Thanks for the extra days.
I decided to send paybycash a message. Have removed my real name:

Hi,

On 09-02-2008 I transferred $12,99 through your service to Guild Software, Inc.
It's been withdrawn from my bank account and Guild Software, Inc states they did not receive it. I know that, for some reason, your service takes 4 to 5 days to compete but this is getting ridiculous. Could you please tell me where my money went and/or when the transfer will be complete?

Regards,

A bit later:

You could just have used your credit card and start playing right away. Though a bit uncomfortable, it's faster and cheaper.

I know when I bought my 2 year run back in October, I used my Visa Card. The only issue I had was that I had moved recently from my parents to my apartment, and my change of address hadn't yet cleared the bank, so it actually Failed, then when I corrected it (immediately) it wouldn't go through due to it being too rapid a switch or something along those lines.
Fortunately Incarnate was nice enough to front me a couple days for my card to get un-fouled up and clear properly.
I try and stay away from PayPal (and other services like it) too slow. Just make sure you go through a secure site, and know your own billing address in advance.

Isn't the VO site the only place where you can pay for your subscription? Or are there others?
