the new Border Skirmish is currently in testing on.. Test. (test:username on login). Hopefully it'll be appearing in production in the near future (Friday night?). No promises, but that's our goal.

When the things mentioned in the newspost make it into production, you may see a large influx of old players.
/tag, you're it
Your excitement is contagious, John. I have high hopes for 2008. Thank you for putting so much hard work into such a cool game.
Cool.
Nice work John :)
Ahhh. I've been waiting (patiently) for the back-end stuff to be done. Now we can move forward! Thanks, that's great news.
At least, it's not raining men!
Great work, guys!
p.s. the "player number" mission on test is sweet!

Not had time to play much recently, so testing (and breaking, I am good at breaking) stuff is kind of hard, looking forward to breaking the new stuff.

What is a moly? And why is it holy?
hehe
hehe
Alright Incarnate, you've roused me from my slumber..
i dont have high expectations for this, looking at the past track record. Maybe things will be different this time, i sure hope so.
epa: Sorry to hear that. Regardless of past track record, the stuff we're talking about doing now would not have been possible a year or so ago. 1) Loading the server cluster with large numbers of capship battles would have caused serious performance problems before we did all the related optimization over this past summer. 2) We had no solid software infrastructure for moving ships around, triggering things, doing large-scale "war" type stuff.. Deliverator exploded and proved problematic to debug, etc etc. 3) A hell of a lot of other stuff we've changed that's too numerous to mention.. like the total server-OS platform shift that we did (which led to a different compiler version, which led to improved capship-battle performance), new dedicated database server, improved monitoring to actually see performance feedback of new features, and countless other changes. Plus, we're bringing on 5 more dual-core server machines, over the coming month, to provide additional capacity for this expanding gameplay. This kind of hardware expense isn't trivial for a company our size, so we're clearly investing in.. something.
Whether we actually *do* go from here and accomplish what we desire, remains to be seen. But, regardless, from what we can see it's actually feasible now, and probably would not have been before.

Michael runs into Guild Software World Headquarters...
"Andy, John, Ray, Ruuunnnnn! Deliverator's going to explode!"
The developers dive out of the 4th story windows onto soft snow piles as the upper floor explodes in a shower of sparks and old motherboards...

Yes, it was just like that. Our lives are like a huge Michael Bay movie.
It's been a long boring year but! it's beginning to be fun to play
The missions now actually do what they are meant to, I can escort, Fight the hive in Itani space (i do this as my main income cause escorting and trading is for wusses and lesser wimps) and I did some mission where I had to find a lost moth then go way the hell over there *points* and it paid me a whole whack of money so the improvements are clearly visible and boredom is beginning to die for the single player! (keep the extra missions coming PCC the one i mentioned above was mint)
Havent tried the new BS yet but im sure compared to the old one it is awesome too I just havent been home at the right time yet
So in conclusion, keep the fun coming cause it is making the boring time worth it!
