Good to see the expansion of the dynamic hive , had a play about in Rhamus.
One minor point , the static hive bots have been removed , but are still recorded as being present on the nav map.

1.8 is not about visible content, it's about the various back-end subsystems we spent the past year developing.. finally being considered "production ready".

I do not see 1.8 as 'boring' it's a step in the right direction and I also think that anyone who states it is boring does not have a clue about program production.
Should hives in storms be reported as such, and should there still be a multiplier to the XP gained? One skirmish I tried in Rhamus was in an Ion Storm, and wasn't reported as such (I actually got caught in the storm flying to the station, started the mission which wasn't listed as being in a storm, then flew back to the mission sector where there was still a storm, so it's not that the storm started after I started the mission).
I'm pretty certain I wasn't getting triple XP either.

What does it mean in terms of play for there to now be three separate hives - Are there now hive skirmish missions everywhere? Or are separate nation-based anti-hive missions in the works?

So, I assume in VO 1.8.1 we'll have 5 hives, 2 in grey and 1 in each nation? =P
No, there should be just the four. Or they could put one in every gray system, which would be sweet...

Know what, you're right, Demonen. The Hive will become a major player.
Know what else? We should have a Serco faction that supports the Hive; Serco who, after spending too much time with the bots, have 'gone native.' They'd balance out the Order of Akan faction, which needs to appear soon, rather nicely.
