Superlight
Thank you, corvus finally has a pirate ship.
I thought the Corvus Merc was THE pirate ship.
The SuperLight isn't really Corvus' ship; you can find it in many Nation stations (although you can't currently make it anywhere but Corvus stations).
Thanks you Corvus WidowMakers... without you a SuperLight is just a toy =9
and as far as I know, the WidowMaker is a Corvus only weapon.

Whats the point of a pirate ship that can't haul any cargo? Besides being a ton of fun to pilot?
I am in no way an expert in this field, but bear with me for sec...
A pirate relies on being able to exploit his victims in some form or another. A lone pirate must not only be able to hual cargo, but first he must also be able to chase it down, and then he must defend it from those that seek to liberate from his cargo hold. There is no perfect ship for all 3 of these tasks, though the Maud Merc is a great all round chaser/hauler/defender.
For a group of pirates things can be a little different, the Merc is a great hauler and a decent defender but it's not the greatest chase ship, the SuperLight fulfills that purpose much better.
As an example imagine a group of 6 players/npcs coordinating a pirate strike,
2xchasers, in SuperLights, even a valk will have trouble running from them.
2xdefender, in Corvus Vult's, with n3's or better. These can't chase nearly as well as a Superlight, but provide greater firepower/armour if things get dicey. Anything the SuperLights can't handle, they just fly towards the 2 vults.
2xhaulers, in Merc Maud's (or potentially even moths). Maud's are slower then the vults, so all 4 attack ships (2xSuperLights and 2xcorvults) are easily quick enough to follow these ships and defend.
And so the SuperLight becomes an excellent pirate ship, if a little overpriced at the moment.

I agree with drazed, but I'm nowhere near being a pirate, so my opinion on this probably is not worth that much.
Still, it's a pity that group pirate tactics most likely won't be popular for some time.

I'm not bothering with the Superlight, honestly. I'm not even that terribly interested in it.
Right now, piracy seems to be primarily a lone wolf occupation (even though we have guilds, etc). Due to that, and the fact that my UIT standing has to be tanked (and as such, I can't even GET to this ship anyway), I don't see why this is worth so much trouble to obtain and maintain.
Why should I work so hard to get a Superlight when all I need to pirate effectively is a Warthog II, a megaposi, and a storm radar? Piracy is an opportunistic business. I get nothing out of chasing down light fighters; indeed, I consistently keep my distance from them. I pick on the fat, easy prey, and that's how I make my living. The Warthog mkII chases this group of targets down exceptionally well.
Ironically, I DO see potential in this ship for vigilantes as something to catch pirates like myself.

1 pirate or 6, if getting away with the cargo is the objective, then you want a ship that can chase, kill, and run away with the cargo. Having a good chase ship or two, like the hog2 that Quirc mentions, can be a good idea, but dragging moths along could be a handicap for pirates that might have to stay on the move.
A Corvus Merc is not the strongest chaser, killer, or hauler. But it has an almost unique combination of the three. You can probably come up with combinations better than 6 corvus mercs, but you would have to work at it.
The superlight may find it's way into use by pirates, but I think Quirc may be right about it being more of a pirate hunter.
EDIT: (In a past example, an overloaded xc, with the assistance of determined fighter escorts, managed to recover much of it's cargo, with it's loses being proportional to the cargo size of the assailant's ship (Atlas X), multiplied by the number of successful cargo swiping passes (2?). In comparison, a ship with a very small cargo space would have been of practically no significant concern to the organized defenses of that particular group of trader/escorts.)

hrmm if youve got 6 ships in the air id not have them all mauds but atleast a couple would be, two quadrails can kill a moth with ease as long as it's in range, the atlas x is also a nice piracy rig as it has some cargo space and can chase a bit better, the bus hunter is also nice cause its agile, infini boost, and still has some cargo space.
