Is it me or are the update changlogs starting to look more and more like they're for some obscure programming language instead of a game?
Sep 29, 2007 incarnate link
Since we have to communicate with the people writing client Plugins in lua and stuff, yes, in a sense they do. Previously we would have just written generalized versions "improved lua error handling", etc.

Are there ever going to be more restrictions on character names? It does tend to spoil the suspension of disbelief (yes, I know the game is more FPS than RPG) when you have characters with names like !%!

It would be nice if there was something to force new names to be vaguely pronouncable (yeah, I know perfection is difficult, but names full of punctuation are silly).

HA! Look at your own name... there's punctuation there. Lets get rid of that one first. :)

That's my user name, not a character name :-)

(yes, I saw the smiley, but just to clarify...)

Names like G'kar or Jo-Del are perfectly okay, but I have seen names like {$$} or H$3k3 which just look ugly. They aren't common, and it's not a huge problem, but since the issue of limiting names was raised in the latest patch, it seemed a suitable moment to moan.

I know, just poking fun of you. :)

samuel: the spaces thing was mostly to prevent people from masquerading as other people in-game, which has been a problem in the past.

I don't mind if we ban certain punctuation, too, but I don't feel that strongly about it. Propose something to Suggestions, I guess.

on this discussion, i wonder how do you pronounce A1k0n?
Sep 29, 2007 Lord~spidey link
i pronounce it A-ee-kon

sorta like that

at least thats how i picture it sounding
Sep 30, 2007 MSKanaka link
Nobody really knows.

According to a1k0n himself, some days it's alkon (with an L), and others it's aikon (with an I).

Personally I usually hear "Andy" in my mind when I see "a1k0n" anyway, so it doesn't matter for me. :P
Sep 30, 2007 vIsitor link
I just refer a1k0n as icon, regardless of the potential inaccuracy of that pronunciation. Besides, the mere fact that he is a dev greatly outweighs the knowledge of how to pronounce his pseudonym.

Don't know if this is because of the update, but the turrets on capital ships are backfiring.
