Proposed TGFT Mining Convoy Events

I would like to start the TGFT mining convoy events back up and I will be running them in game. I did not want to have it at the same time as another event so I think Saturdays around 2:00 p.m. EST (17:00 GMT) should be a good starting point.

For those who have not joined a mining event we get a group of miners and escorts and go into bot sectors to mine rare ores in various places in the verse. The escorts keep the bots off the miners who hauls out as much ore as they can.

The miners will not sell the ore but stock pile them at a station and when the event is over all the ore gets sold at once and we split the profits up among everyone involved. This would help benefit the lower level players.

The mining sectors will vary depending on the number of players in the group, the skill levels and faction standing. I.e. it would be very unfair to mine in Itani space for Serco’s with bad Itani standing.

I would like to start not this weekend but next weekend sept 8, 2007, due to the updates for this weekend.

For any questions or etc then please contact me in game, Moda Messolus, or contact any TGFT member on channel #444.

ArAel: Tube Races are on Friday. The DR starts later on in the day.

Nice. Might make mining a little bit more bearable than usual. :)

Friday, since around three months, is the Tube Race day. GMT2100, but still...

great Idea Moda, even though mining is boring :)

Friday was traditionally the mining event day until the Tube Races started, but 1700GMT Saturday (which is actually 3PM in Eastern Time at the moment due to ye olde Daylight Savings) would be fine.

Whoa, an event with a perfect timing for Europeans? Something is being changed in VO!

Actually 17:00 (5:00 PM) GMT is 13:00 (1:00 PM) Eastern Time... the difference is -4 hours with DST and -5 hours without, unless North America has crept up a few timezones towards Europe lately ;)

Heheh. Thanks, misiorysio. I seem to have been failing at 24-hour time conversions lately. :/

Ok so I flunked time zones :) it's 1pm The old time of Friday at 5pm eastern time hindered the west coast as they are still at work, many of those in Europe would be midnight or close to it. I was thinking this time slot would be much better for everyone.

I was thinking some place in grey, who knows perhaps we could mine B8 :)

This first one ended with a big failure because of 3 sub-normal intelligent co-player. It is one thing to 'pirate' and yet another to seriously disrupt events. It's also grossly unfair to everyone in the event when this happens, not only do you have to fight off 30 guardians but other players as well and that will always end badly, just the guardians alone is super hard work.

So I am going to ask a guide to help out with the event to keep things peaceful from other players. Going into the heavy nasty bot sectors and keeping them off unarmed super slow moving ships and often players who does not have license to get fast charge battery's is extremely taxing. This is why I updated the news report to include no harassing and killing people in the convoy by other players.

Uh, any guide who interferes with the killing of your miners should be shitcanned at once.

No, we're happy to support scheduled player Events. As long as they take place in a limited area, out of the way of other players, are scheduled and organized well in advance with a defined timetable, and don't obviously interfere with normal gameplay, we'll be happy to make sure they go off smoothly. Scheduled events aren't a part of the "normal" day-to-day game, so it isn't unreasonable to protect PvE restrictions specific to the event, and the like, as long as they're reasonably out of the way and not interfering (for instance, holding it in Sedina B8 would be kind of dumb). We have an awful lot of space, so being "out of the way" should not be hard.

If a couple of aggressive people can't come and hunt miners during the event, well that's ok. They'll just have to stick to hunting normal miners during normal mining gameplay. I think that's Reasonable.

incarnate: This is really for you and the other developers:
Are you changing your policy of non interference with player scheduled events?
Will this decision protect all player events or just this one?

Your stance in the past has always been to let the players handle it. The nation war, most noticeably, has been disrupted by pirates and players many times. The Devs have always said we, as players, should deal with it ourselves.

I personally think that a guide, if needed, should help out with player events and keep the peace. But this decision will be challenged and i wanted it to come from someone freindly to the plight of those affected.

Oh boy!

Edit: Okay, but seriously speaking, as someone who was very close to the events yesterday, I must say that I am shocked at the behavior of these three "aggressive" individuals. It's pretty clear that Moda had put a lot of hard work into these events, and while he might not run them in the same way as those that came before him, I think it is our duty as players to respect and uphold the rules he puts forth for being in Azek during the time of the event!

Clearly, the very fact that the event was held in Azek should have told the evil bastards that shot the miners that they were not welcome! I'm sure that absolutely none of the other people that took part in this event thought the griefers should have been there. I'm just surprised those people haven't come forth to support blacknet here in his campaign to segregate mining convoy from the rest of the game.

Keep on fighting the good fight there Moda!

Inc, that's an unusual and new stance for you and VO. It's also helped me make up my mind about some things. Thanks.

So like, the mining event used to "encourage" pirates and PK'ers to attend, hence the need for "defenders". Infact! I have once or twice been a defender at one of these events and had real fun blasting the snot out of both bots, and offensive players. So like, if guides are actually going to become useful, maybe its time to appoint some more guides? Cos like, I know I aint been about that much recently, but like, 3 guides for all the events? Because if you are going to be so bold as to make the statement "No, we're happy to support scheduled player Events. As long as they take place in a limited area, out of the way of other players, are scheduled and organized well in advance with a defined timetable, and don't obviously interfere with normal gameplay, we'll be happy to make sure they go off smoothly." then you best be sure you can back that up.

Hell, I remember a time when I stole samoflange from a guide, and with all their powers, they could not take it back...
