I'm sick of 100 starting to look a lot like Blizzard's battle.net chat.

Sorry Foo I disagree. Once an hour should be all that is needed. And the actual sale/deal should be done as a pm like Dr. Lecter suggested.
Moldyman is also right though. The whole games takes place on chan 100. Moving any group to another chan just fragments us :(
Player run events are different. I'm sure we can all agree on that. Advertising every 15 min to make sure everyone is aware of it starting about 2 hours before the event is fine. New players logging on need that information.

Holy crap...That is what I was thinking lecter O.o about the bnet thing.

With a little community effort we can split up 100 and 300 easily. Remember that joining 300 does not leave 100, so you can still OOC in 100 while RPing in 300.
As for the ads?
I'm fine with "once an hour" one-liners. What pisses me off is the quoting of odds. Seems like 10 lines only three people care about.
Dude, make a script to announce the odds when you get the message "odds", then say "Taking bets for Deneb Run, /msg me the word >odds< to get the odds."
Done.
Also, how about buying space in the ingame news? I'm aware for the potential problem of someone making an article that is just 300 words of profanity, but a simple "report this" or "vote for this player to loose access to this feature" would work, especially if you'd have to be a subscribed user to post there.
I know I'd love to see ingame-adds for ingame-stuff in the News!
I'd probably post a bunch of stuff there for RP reasons, no matter the cost.

Each vendor can limit advertising on 100, with the add directing inquires to another channel. This allows the vendor to have the visibility of 100, while keeping the cross talk on a less active channel, and avoid having to use /msg.
Ads should not only be limited in frequency, but size. A one liner once an hour is much less annoying than a 2 liner every two hours. You can always direct players to your own private spam channel for the full add.
I suggest that a single add be posted twice an hour on 100 "Tune in to channel 5000 for offers of goods and services!", and then all the advertisers can coordinate the use of said channel.
no one is going to complain about your add on channel 5000 that says "boink's weapon surplus sales on channel 5001!". That way boink can spam 5001 all he wants.
Nation war and other events can use a similar system, spamming 100 with short one liners directing to another channel with more information. ( And nation war recruiting should be done on channel 11, unless you are recruiting nationalities other than your own.)

Channel 5000?
Should be channel only 1995
