I am in the basic combat mission and I am only getting combat xp for a few of the dozens of bots I am killing. Shouldn't I be getting 100-150 combat xp for each collector bot?

for killing a bot you get some weapons xp depending on the weapon you use. and when you are doing the basic combat mission it gives you some combat, light weapons and heavy weapons xp for every 5 bots you kill. it does not give you combat xp for just killing 1 bot

Collectors give 5 to 35 xp, in light or heavy weapons licenses. Only missions give combat xp. Why? I have no idea.

You need to take the Beginner or Advanced Combat mission; then you will get the Combat XP listed with every kill (without the mission you don't get it); and every few kills you also get a bonus to Combat, Light and Heavy.

You don't get it with each kill, you get it with the bonus after 5 kills.

Remember you have to kill one of the bots on the list you are given in the briefing to get the bonus to yoru stats

So if it tells you to go after orun collectors. done go after assault bots because while you will get a standard kill XP you wont get any bonus XP at all.

It doesn't help that the wiki is completely unclear. I blame whoever made that page(not me).

In the old hive skirmish missions I remember you'd get combat exp opposed to light or heavy exp. The combat exp number on that page may be referring to those missions.

The only current sources of combat exp are missions and player kills.
