I thought this game was supposed to support thousands of people online? I've just checked the active players and there's 24 people currently online. I'm just downloading the trial at the moment but can guarantee that I won't be paying $9.99 if 24 people online at once is the best it gets.

The game can support far more players than are currently online, but as there has been effectively no advertising so far (the devs are waiting for 2.0), we haven't got many. You might see ~75, and we've had ~300 occasionally.

Also, I love your logic. "There aren't enough people playing this game, so let's fix that by not playing!"

Catch 22. Regardless, people would fall into the game if they heard from others that it was awesome. Which isn't happening since the Devs want to hold off on advertising. Which means the population stays low.

Anyway, the graph speaks for itself and I thank Aleksey for linking to it. There are hundreds of paid subscribers but, as the graph makes clear, we're not all on at once.
