Petition to Ban "Roda Slane"
I have been a loyal supporter of Guild Software and and Subscriber to Vendetta for over two years now. In my entire time here, I have noticed one player and one player only who has been a constant and unrelenting nuisance to the entire playerbase, and that player is Roda Slane.
I know of several players who have either unsubscribed from VO or refused to subscribe in the first place for the sole reason that Roda Slane has ruined the experience for them. I have also heard from several other subscribers who testify that had they met Roda Slane before they had become paying members, they never would have subscribed. His behavior is detrimental to the enjoyment of the playerbase and the prosperity of the developers.
I was here for the Arolte incident, and I remember remember the collective disgust of the community toward his bahavior. I remember the players who left VO on account of it, and I remember why they left. Arolte exploited the system to gain advantages he was never meant to have, and used them to harass other players. Yet in spite of everything I remember about Arolte, Roda Slane's behavior is in my own opinion, even more intolerable. He is louder, more prevalent, and more obnoxious than Arolte ever was. He exploits the system to harass other players, and then he gloats about it on global chat.
Roda Slane goes against everything I believe in.
I believe in fair fights, Roda believes in ganking, spamming and running to ensure that it never happens.
I believe in combat etiquette, Roda believes in harassment.
I believe in helping new players, Roda believes in flaming and griefing them.
I believe in supporting the VO playerbase, and Roda believes in driving them away, for his own personal gratification.
I believe Roda Slane needs to go.
I have been a loyal supporter of Vendetta Online for two years.... for two years, I have paid my subscription, and for two years I have had encounter after encounter with Roda Slane. Every single time I have fought him and come out on top, he has run away or killed himself to deny me the kill. Every single time he has said something on 100, it has been negative. Every single time he has responded to a newbie, it has been in a harmful manner. He has no values, no morals, no desire to help the community. And so I ask, what is he giving to Vendetta? In my experience, it has been nothing but aggrivation, anger and disruption.
As a supporter of Guild Software, I currently pay for two VO accounts. I hope the sincerity will not be lost in my personal pledge, that if roda "goes away," I will pay for a third, and continue to pay it as long as he does not come back.

Get back to commanding [PWND].
A guy with such a bad-ass name should not whine like a girl about another player or even dream aout getting rid of somebody he apparently cannot kill by a petition.
And offering to pay the Devs for getting someone out of the game is unprecedented lameness.

OMG, first I agree with something Lecter said, then with something LeberDoze said, now I'm agreeing with Sun Tzu? WTF!
Oh yeah, and wheres the ban yoda petition already?

and i am one of those people who would have left if i had met roda earlier.
on certain occasions roda has made me think of cancelling my subscription as well. one time i was in h-2 in a duel. roda came and killed me, then he started swarming everyone and boosting away. eventually after countless attempts at destroying rodas fleeing ship, i decided to move to another system to do some hive hunting. i chose one that had 10 bots. i was doing fine for a few minutes until roda apeared and blew me up after tracking me down. so then i chose to join a group of people who were killing queens in uit space, so i joined them knowing that since i would be in a random sector of a nation that roda is hated by that i would be relatively safe. about 10 minutes later it turned out that roda had once again tracked me down to where i was queening and continued to swarm me. after this i had decided to quit my futile attempts at having just a little fun on a bad day and logged off.

meh.........Im completely 100% sure, he wont be banned. Hes a paying costumer, following the game rules, which dont mention ettiquete.
But....
VO is maintained by the small community which is one of the great things that VO has, its community. Having a player hated by the whole commmunity, and who damages its by making other players leave, isnt good for the game.
In a game with a massive community, this wouldnt matter, but we are talking about VO, where there are barely 50 players online at any time....
So, the question is: Should they ban a player whos slowing down the growth of the community and of the game even though he follows the rules and pays?
Now, this is really gonna rise his ego up to infinity....

To quote relevant rules and penalties:
Rules of Conduct
...FAILURE TO ACT RESPONSIBLY AND COMPLY WITH THESE RULES WITHIN VENDETTA ONLINE... MAY RESULT IN THE TERMINATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT WITHOUT ANY REFUND OF ANY KIND.
1. You may not harass or threaten other players.
2. You may not use any sexually explicit, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive language.
And:
1. Foul language is not permitted, in any language.
Excessive use of foul language in an inappropriate context, including swear words, real-world racial slurs, and other language that is not consistent with the science fiction environment and designed to hurt, will be considered a disruption. The existence of the filter (game options) is not a license to be profane.
2. You may not harass others.
Harassment is defined as specifically targeting another player or group of players to harm or inconvenience them. As harassment can take many forms, the Guide involved will make a determination as to whether or not a "reasonable person" would feel harassed and act accordingly.

Given my own encounters with this person, and those I've witnessed on 100 of trial users leaving in disgust over his remarks I support this petition. He deserves a ban, permanently.
I've basically stopped playing vo. I'll maintain my subscription for now, but some kind of action against this guy would definitely show that Guild is interested in supporting all aspects of vo, not just the technical stuff (which I'm very impressed with).

Leave Roda alone, please!
First off, he's needed. The game has no content, so a widely reknown "villain" (use your preferred definition of "villain") is just needed. There are no unrats, the hive is a joke, the rest of the PvE content is sorely MIA. Devs need live pitas in the environment to justify the price of the game. Roda just fits. Probably his account is paid by the devs. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if devs PAY him to play and wreak havoc here and there. Flying in VO would be very boring without him ganking and running.
Secondly, read my lips: THERE ARE NO RULES. As demonstrated time and again in more occasions than I care to count, whatever the software allows you to do, it can be freely done; if it's doable, even if it's technically breaking that sad joke we use to call "ROC", not only it will be left unpunished, but it will be left unchecked, too! Put your soul to rest, that's the only truth. There are no enforcers, there are only programmers. They program, we thank them for their effort, but they do absolutely nothing to enforce their own rules. Cmon, open up your errors.log, and check, for [100] alone, how many violations of the simple ROC 1. and 2. you can find in a single hour span. Go ahead, amuse yourself.
Third - the strict RL costs/benefits business aspect. Don't even TRY to touch that. We're in front of (young) programmers, not businessmen. It has been proven, time and again, that even if they are faced with "either lose one griefing paying customer, or three griefed paying customers", they simply do not care about the matter. One, three, ten, one hundred. It's all the same for them. The sooner you put this basic concept between your ears, the better you'll enjoy Vendetta Online.
Mind you, that's not bad. A lead programmer shouldn't be CFO, much less CEO. But Guild Software is the size it is. It's nobody fault they are only four developers, period. Deal with it, and stop whining.
Enjoy the game as long as the customer base pay up for the servers, bandwidth and stipends. Once the trickle dries up, just move on to something else.

Arolte was not banned.
i'm currently not a paying member so dont take any of the following as endorsement for anyone's expulsion or safe-keeping. just commenting on a few things.
I believe in fair fights, Roda believes in ganking, spamming and running to ensure that it never happens.
I believe in combat etiquette, Roda believes in harassment.
well, as much as you dislike it, this is within the scope of gameplay. there are no rules in vendetta. just people willing (or not) to adhere to certain combat behavior/etiquette.
I believe in helping new players, Roda believes in flaming and griefing them.
I believe in supporting the VO playerbase, and Roda believes in driving them away, for his own personal gratification.
so, he's an ass. few will disagree. though, i find it hard to believe his aim is actually to drive players away. certainly not noobs--they're the only ones he can actually fight without having to run away.
his belly button just needs to dry and he needs to grow out of his diapers. then perhaps he'll grow up and be liked (though that's a long shot).
I believe Roda Slane needs to go.
i would have liked him to go when i was a paying member, but that's simply because i can't stand asses. he didn't do anything that was completely reprehensible.
there's been another player whom i think would have been more deserving and a kick out the doors. although a good rp-er and a good pilot, his forum behavior have been way more reprehensible. he has calmed down as of late wich is good. this shows that obtrusive behavior can be corrected with a bit of convincing. in the end, i'm rather happy he wasn't kicked out of the game. though there are times i wish we had the equivalent of /vote mute on the boards.
the in-game /vote mute thing is there for that reason. keep offenders out of the channel while giving them a chance of redemption. roda's been muted once or twice already i believe.

This type of thread is rarely if ever helpful, and bound to be locked. If you wanted to be taken seriously Keyser, you should have emailed John. This looks like nothing more than a bid for attention or an attempt to stir up the community against a single player, which really is no better than the things you accuse Roda of.

i dont mind the fact that roda has no sense of ettiquete while fighting. but its that he frequently ruins fun times even when i try to avoid him.
This type of thread is not the appropriate forum for addressing complaints about specific players.
As had been already mentioned, please contact the developers directly to discuss your concerns.
john@guildsoftware.com would be my 1st choice.
