people need to use it more...

you should have a bounty bot in every sector! so like... money does stuff like that!

Hmm - a thought!

What about a bountybot in both 6, 4 and 12, one in their respective colors. And when a bounty has been put on a char. it should be active in all 3 sectors.

Just a thought

It'd be darn near impossible for the owner of bountybot. I don't know if you know this, but BountyBot functions by having a full copy of vendetta running 24/7 and sending simulated keyboard input to the console. To have more than one sector would require more than one copy of vendetta, which I think is impossible. So it'd require multiple computers, and multiple characters, plus networking for the backend to communicate bounties between all of the computers. Nah, we just need the devs to put in REAL support for this. If it's on their end, it's as easy as pi.

I've asked the devs for a chat-only client (stdin/stdout chat). But frankly, I wouldn't want such a thing to be generally available, because I don't like vendetta as a chat room, and I wouldn't want to see chat bots (Eliza, IRC gateways, etc.) Call me an elitist snob, I don't mind.

If people like the service BountyBot provides, and really want to see more sectors patrolled by it, go ahead and ask the devs to create such a client, and I'll set it up.

It'd be kinda hard to ensure that such a client wouldn't be abused, though. I imagine it'd be easy to hack...

a little off topic, but did anyone else notice that bountybot is super slow ever scince it switched to gold?

wierd eh?

You don't sound elitist at all Bounty Bot. You provide a very specific service to the community. I remeber I got money once for killing somebody who attacked me in the first place. That's when I realized that Bounty Bot rocks.

why has bountybot been so slow lately?
Jun 27, 2003 BusMasteR link
huhuhuhuhuuuu - i know your problem now... I mean - i'm just developing statscripts here - sending commands to vendetta from the outside ain't easy =D

Bountybot is probably slow because Vendetta bogs down very badly if you sit in a station for a long time. Ray figured out why last night. It's a bug in the particle system where particles need to be rendered once before they can be removed, so people's damage effects and explosions and stuff just kinda pile up over time.

Does this bug also apply to the smoke effect in the s7/s13/s17 stations? I noticed a large FPS hit while staying idle right above the dust of the station exhaust.
Jun 27, 2003 BusMasteR link
I've especially noticed that exiting the s10 station after dockings that take a couple of minutes or so - it's taken my computer up to 1.5 minutes of 0.5 fps to get over this, that some times. Just a notice...

Roguelazer, I don't know how such a client could be hacked. The idea would be that you'd have to use the regular client to fly a ship, but the chat client would log in and cause your ship to appear wherever it normally would, but without any way to pilot it. You would only be able to chat.

I could use the normal client to park BountyBot in the station, and then use many copies of this text-only client to run multiple BountyBots on the same machine.

ouu! ouu! I've gots a new question! how exactly do you get then text from the console to whatever script you have running?

/me is curious %P
Jun 27, 2003 roguelazer link
BountyBot: Err... I was just mentioning that since it would be console it might be easier to decrypt the transmission stream, which is what past Bot Owners (TM) have tried to do with 0 success.

genka: That part is easy.

I'm more curious how he simulates text into the game, i haver a bunch of ideas that need an outside script to grab information (these ideas use /echo)
