grinding up faction standing
About how long would it take for me, as an Itani player to grind up my serco faction rating to non KOS levels, and what would be the best way to do it?
I have a character I've played for several weeks, but there's a guild in serco space I want to join. (Essentially I want to switch sides.)
Or, would it be less time consuming to just restart as a Serco?

I heard estimates of 4 hive bots per standing point needed. You sneak into Serco space and kill hive bots. And you will receive Serco standing for it (if you're taking the Advanced Combat mission, Itani may even pay you to do this). Some players prefer to target Artimas collector bots, I prefer Valent A-47 Assaults myself (low armor). You need to pick a sector that is not monitored (look at the description on your navigation screen.) You may also want to pick a sector that is easy to find repairs from.
If you are at -1000 Serco standing, then that would be around 1200 hive bots. Look at your character's stats in your PDA. Have you even killed 1200 bots so far? Biased on your characters total bot kills, think about how many 1200 is. For some players, 1200 might be just another days work, but I doubt it. A pro with a megaposi can kill bots almost none stop for about as long as he wants to. But it is still a lot of bots. I've done it, but I don't want to do it again.

yeah. i had to do this a few times. in a good sector, with a dual gauss setup, i could average about 30-40 bots / minute. do the math. it *does* take a while.
last i did that didn't seem to be 4 bots/points though. someone had actually done the math once and it came up to some weird 1.6 bots / point figure. i'm not sure if those numbers changed in time though.
arm yourself with loud music.

You're better off starting a Serco character, for the long run. We're going to be making changes to the faction system in the near future, which will make Itani/Serco standing somewhat mutually exclusive.
With all the time it would take to get your Serco standing up, you may as well just level someone new and then have two well-leveled characters.
