New player question
Hello,
I am a new player and have chosen the Serco since they seem to have fewer people.
I have been puttering around the last several days in the faq, message boards, and the wiki, but cannot seem to find the answer I have been looking for, so if some one could provide a link as I am pretty sure this has been discussed before.
I was wondering, as a Serco, who I can attack(PvP), where I can attack them without losing faction and hopefully gain faction with the Serco. Also if there are areas that are off limits like Itani space because of automated defenses.

Welcome to the game.
You may enter Itani space but you will be shot on sight. You can't kill Serco players with good faction standing and they can't kill you either. Anyone else you can kill.
Its not a good idea to kill anyone near a station (no fire zone, 2000m from station). All sectors, except maybe storm sectors, are monitored in nation space. Grey space is the place were players usually fight.
Have fun

So when you say I get shot on sight in Itani space, you mean by other players or NPC guns. Also If I see an Itani wondering around Serco space I can attack them at will, but I won’t get faction for it, just satisfaction?

You say I’ll lose faction if I kill someone liked by my faction, is there a way to tell before I shoot them how they are liked ? Is it possible for Itani to become liked by serco or is it safe to say they are KOS in Serco space?

When you have the ship targeted, press k. You'll see their stats, including how well liked they are by each of the Three Nations (though not by any of the other factions). That way you can see if they are "shootable" or not.
Still, should you shoot and hit(by accident, of course) a person who's liked by the faction in control of that sector of space, a big message will flash on your screen, warning you to lay off or face the consequences.
Finally, Itani can be loved by Serco and viceversa, so make sure the Itani is not supposed to be there before you open fire; some players will "reason" that no Itani has a right to be in Serco space, but that's not how the game works.
The consequences for shooting someone who is liked by the faction controlling that system/sector are:
1. Loss of faction points for that faction, directly proportional to how well liked the victim is. Some people have lost all their standing for foolishly (or recklessly) shooting someone who is loved by a faction (faction of +1000, also known as Pillar of Society, and only available for the Nations; some people have it with the other factions, too, but that was due to a bug that happened quite a while ago).
2. The faction's Strike Forces will come for you, specially if you attacked inside a station's No Fire Zone, or if the faction drop sent you to hated or thereabouts. Not sure if they come for you if you are still liked or neutral to them.
