Dissapointment

Red nation (of which I am a dedicated member), I am very dissapointed with some of you. Last night I logged on to the team-chat screams of "HELP!". These were emanating from a fellow red that had the gold flag. I, of course, rushed to his aid. What I didn't know at the time was that he had been warp hopping for about 20 minutes between 6 and 3. As many of you are aware, I HATE warp hoppers if they have the flag. After a gold pointed out what was going on, I quickly left without offering further assistance.

Up until now, I had only seen gold do this (many times), and every time they claimed that we did it too (I didn't believe them). So....

1) Gold, sorry if I got a little excited about it. I really never saw a red warp hop with the flag before until last night. While this doesn't mean I won't get pissed if I see someone do it, I understand why you had been doing it. I still despise this strategy, and hope everyone will cease to abuse it.

2) Red, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? This is the kind of behavior that gets us a bad rep. Play the game, don't take advantage of it. We're better than that. If you cap and don't have the escorts or the skill to finish it, you die. Thats how it works. Its part of the risk that you take when you grab that glowing ball. Everybody dies sometime, be it by bot, roid or enemy fighter.

Personally I think any tactic is allowed in war.... I wouldn't apologise to anyone for warp hopping...
Jun 11, 2003 lunitary link
Icaruse....you dont care much about the tactics of war...
but such lame tactic is'nt good for our reputation (as Nytemaryre pointed out)...
mabye you dont care much about our reputation but others who are afected by it...they can get killed from a gold and blue hunting then down for being reds...
a skiled pilot like you can dodge then...but a newbie cant!!!
you say it's war....then consider all the fighters...dont look only at your self.

again, this warp hopping problem must be fixed.

I agree any tactic that keeps you alive during a war is valid. Note the key word : "War."

Vendetta is a game so there has to be a limit to what people can do, otherwise the game would only provide entertainment for a select few and those who aren't entertained will just leave and vendetta won't make it past the beta stage which would be a huge shame.

However, warp hopping isn't a problem until a flag is involved then it becomes boring for the people defending because they can't kill the capper and they can't leave the sector because their flag will be captured.

One solution to consider is to have a 4 second delay before a battery starts to recharge so you can't instantly warp back and forth but it still allows you to double back if you see a defender in the sector and have enough warning.

or an easier solution is just to disable activation of the wormhole for 4 seconds after entering it. But only when you are in possession of the flag.

Please, stay away from my batterie and it's effect on the warmhole jumping, I already hated it when they put in the 100% batterie need to jump.

cheers

The exact time is (first jump to the time he died) from 21:19:45 (PDT my machine ;)) to 21:39:43, about 20 minutes... he spent 3min in s3 dunno what he was doing (flag was grabbed on 21:16:47, I attacked him about 45 seconds after that, he got to s6 jump in his prommy as I went to reload.).

Let the warp hoppers jump...this is NOT A PROBLEM.
They'll get bored with it eventually too...you all just need to learn some fscking patience.
I'm just sick and tired about all the nitpicking and whining. It needs to stop - save it for the BIG stuff.

Is it me or has the principal use of this forum become to voice varying opinions on what constitutes good gamemanship?

I would if it wasn't for a flag, I'd just let him jump back and forth forever if he was a trader.
And the fact that the devs took out defense bots in s1/2/3 also helped the capper, because he could just sit still until I jumped there or another gold did.

I'm gonna keep whining until they...

A) Make wormhole areas smaller.

OR

B) Make visible wormholes bound by a ring-like glowing device. These will always beat "natural" wormholes in terms of coolness factor. ALWAYS!!!

They've already said that B is out. And I personally think that A is stupid. Why not just make the exit points in a, say, 5km sphere instead of a 1.5km one?
Jun 11, 2003 electric27 link
Rouge, like they exit outside the accual warp sphere? That might work as long as they don't warp inside a roid or something.

Golds are hypocrytes(sp). Man up, Nytemayre, and quit crying.
Jun 11, 2003 The Kid link
5km is waayyy too big, let's say there is only 1 capper vs 1 defender, somehow the capper is able to warp into let's say, sector 4 ahead of the blue defender. The capper appears only 2km away from s7 warp, but then the defender appears 10km away. so by the time the defender catches up, the capper is already in s7.

Let us continue trying to be a more civil community. Calling people "hypocrites" or an argument "stupid" causes the reader to react emotionally rather than intelligently.

Please reconsider your posts.

Well, perhaps the solution must start from one side, even if the other refuses. Anyone who has paid close attention to the situation in Israel knows exactly where "eye for an eye" justice gets you. If you have not, let me note that it gets you exactly nowhere, and causes a lot of suffering on both sides in the process. I would suggest this as a balm of sorts for our community: If there is an exploit, do not use it. Advise anyone who will listen to you not to use it. The really low ones will do it anyhow, unless they are physically prevented from doing so. The only way is to last it out until such exploits are made unprofitable, and each person who refuses the temptation to use such an exploit is a person doing their part to make the community better.

Interesting to watch this game evolve from a sociological/philosophical standpoint. The only real "rules" of Vendetta are the physics engine the devs have created. So called "exploits" are ways to use these rules to one's own advantage in a way that is looked down upon by other players based on an arbitrary understanding of what is "fair." As ctishman illustrates through his reference to modern day Israel, these perceptions are imprinted on us by society and are carried with us into the game world of Vendetta. But Vendetta isn't a real world, it's just a game, so if one finds a so called "exploit" why not use it? Machiavelli would applaud the red player who used the "unfair" tactic of warp-hopping to survive. The way I see it, the rest of the Vendetta community can respond in three possible ways.

A) Complain about it until the devs implement a physical rule to counteract such behavior.

B) Hunt down the offending player to make an example of him. This would discourage such behavior by threat of force, creating an imaginary "social" rule to Vendetta.

C) Find a way to combat the "exploit" within the given parameters.

I personally choose C, I think it's the most fun. The other day I was fighting a player who would pop out of a station, fire a bunch of missiles at me, and immediately dock again. This might be called an "exploit" by some, but if he was willing to use the system to his advantage, so was I. I loaded up on mines and mined whole station. Also a dirty trick, but the next time he popped out of the station to take a cheap shot at me he had a big suprise waiting for him. Remember that this game is just a "test" and the devs probably want to see what creative ways players can bend the rules to their advantage before releasing the final version. I say be creative, and go crazy. If something works, run with it until the devs decide to change it.

Read the above thread by SirCamps.
Everybody needs to find their own set of rules to play by and suffer the pro's and con's of them.
It will never be anarchy as the variations in behaviour are constrained by the dev's. If they want to stop a certain type of behaviour then they will find a way easily enough, but too many rules will inhibit gameplay and start losing them players, which they don't want.

This type of post is really just people whinging because others don't play the same way as they do. These topics have been covered sooo many times it's not funny.
If you wanna play like a socially responsible, "after you sir", be nice to everyone, type character then do so. Just stop complaining about others style of play.
