Right now, in my experience, PvV (Prom vs. Valk) combat is based on one thing- if the Prom can get their LazyGatling Turrets locked. One they do, they just flare and AGT. They know that their target can't see or maneuver enough to do any real damage. If you take away the L-Port, and replace an S (Or, even better, make a Valk variant that has one L port centered), then it comes down to armor vs speed. Besides- I ground my HW license to nine- I want to get something out of that!
Blagh, you people are missing the point of each of these ships. They aren't a perfect ying to the others yang, you know.
Incarnate, I'd suggest making a couple of 'long ranged' guns that fire up to 1200m fairly quickly, but doing only 500 dmg per hit. with decent auto-aim, that would be a good counter vs gat turrets.

He's actually right, the prom and valk aren't supposed to counter eachother. They serve different roles. The prom is slow but can blast the crap out of anything that comes near it. The valk is more of a superiority vessel because it allows you to control the pace of the battle.
Proms are actually very quick in terms of strafing power. It's just in their turning and forward thrust that they are slow.
We all know the prom is without a doubt the best ship in the game. But it's fine like that. It doesn't need to have a counterpart. Let's worry about balance after 2.0 anyhow. It actually is pretty pricey already.
They do have a big weakness, and that's being out gunned by a heavier ship. Missiles and flares (expecially jacks) will give a prom a very hard time. Once we move away from Space Quake, missile boats will become a very viable option as a support ship. Maybe a new ship designed specifically as a missile platform with 3L ports and 3S ports. Make it have about the armor of a valk and allow it to turn like a centaur but strafe like a behemoth XC. Of course for this to happen we need to figure out how to have missiles not kill everyone's framerate. Also, by then hopefully people will have learned to stop whining about spam and just deal with it as a tactic in war.

I think the prom should stay the way it is. It's a great combat ship. The brute force approach fits the serco story. It's real tough 1v1 but any half decent pair can take a prom. And since the serco have fewer pilots most times that's the way the fights go in deneb. Let them have the uber ship.

...It's also real funny when one IBG is fighting three or more proms and a prom jock complains about back-rolling :)

We need some precision bombers modeled after the ten during the Colony War. Akanese maybe?
The Itani bombers were the pinnacle of their aerospace engineering, a testament to the innovation of the Itani engineers. Huge craft, powered by reactor driven gravitic pulse engines, their range was practically unlimited.
So began the Colony War

The Prom is kind of a bomber ship itself, but completely opposite as Ghost described. It accelerates fast, but turns like a 21m slug. It's got enough armour plating to brush off glancing attacks, but since since the frame is so big, not so much for up close fighting. (An IBG with double gauss only needs to be behind one for about five seconds to deal crippling damage.) And I swear I read in one of the descriptions somewhere that it actually was a bomber. Since players are fond of using Gatling Turrets and sunflares, that too kind of mimics the anit-fighter guns from those WWII bombers, along with sunflares as the payload, albeit just a kind of mini bomber. A single pilot "Flying Fortress".
To answer the OP, what's not 'the matter' with the Prom is that it's length makes it very difficult to turn with, and therefor not suited to weapons that require spilt second adjustments to score a hit.

screw prom. I miss the beta Hog TD. For some reason, i owned better in that than SCP.
Ah yes, back when hogs were semi-useful
hogs are still a wonder ship for pirating purposes
But what about the TD? Its supposed to be an anti-pirating craft, but the nerf has made it hardly befitting of the role.
