Capital Ships ETA?

So, there are only four planned capital ships ?
Is this number going to grow as time goes on, or is it going to be just these four? (From what I understand, some of them aren't even warships.)

Vendetta will ALWAYS be in development. You can safely assume that there will always be new things on the horizon. Current development is centered on tackling some of the major flaws of the game right now. That done, they can get on with content.

Ooh, I'll have to look into that samuel.penn. Thanks

And there are three Capital Ships that are currently in VO. The other one, the Constellation hasn't made an appearance in a while, but I'm willing to bet that it's "planned", as you put it. For that matter, you're guess is as good as mine as to what's planned or not, but if you check the backstory there's a few clues. For example, the Serco are the ones who built "massive Carrier ships", whereas the Itani built "high-altitude precision bombers" that seem to be the archetype for ships universe wide. (And note that if the Order of Akan truly did attain their weapons from age old designs, these kinds of bombers would be the best available about the time that the Order would need to start stashing away their weaponry, right before the Itani defeat and the launch from Sol II.)

I can't wait for CapShips.
The sooner we get them, the sooner we start getting the uberawesome BSG-esque combat I've been hoping for.
But we still need a few things (things the Devs will no doubt think of). Like stronger weapons on caps, and such.
But damn will this be awesome.

so everybody will fly a cap ship. Cap ship inflation. Cap ship pvp, cap ship everything. I am wondering how much cargo does it hold? I bet loading it will take somewhat long in 120 cu increments...

Hopefully, when balancing capships, the devs will make some of them especially vulnerable to fighters. Something with large, slow firing turrets and little to possibly no shields. That way, caps will have need of fighters to defend them, or at least an anti-fighter cap ship.

Every capital ship (even with its crew at complement) without fighter escorts, or rather, interceptor craft, should have to succumb to an organized attack of more than one fighter/bomber craft, varying according to the defensive capabilities of the individual class.

Fighter escorts should be an absolute necessity, not a convenient thing to have.

Good stuff.
I was hoping for some faction specific battleships and such, and the one type of vessel I'd really love to see in the game is a dedicated carrier where you can outfit it with AI controlled fighters rather than depending on other players.

(I personally wouldn't want to ride around in a carrier all day waiting to be used, I'd rather go out on my own. Granted, I'm relatively new, but I've been looking for an MMOG to get into for a long time, and since WOW and EVE bore me to tears, this looks promising.)

Are there plans to implement Player/Guild owned/conquerable territory or space stations ?

I read through the Wiki, but didn't see this anywhere.

Yes. That is one of those "Damn right...but once we get kourier, and other stuff done (like cap ships, the new eco)"

Oh, in case you didn't know...four guys are making this game at any given time. No more.

We want carriers, but we have some AI/behavior problems to conquer first (well, a lot of problems, but specifically that for carriers.. 20 fighters trying to dock with a moving capship right now would be a hilarious nightmare).

We're also aiming for conquerable territory.. in fact, rather soon now (and not Soon(tm), but it is dependent on the Kourier work.. like a lot of things).

Player/guild ownable stations and such will come, but a bit further out.

So explore addon gets delayed again, I still think hidden stuff will be great for n00bs, no matter how they find out about it, sod cap ships. :P

Exploration would be cool if we had more players and space wasn't pretty much empty as-is. Otherwise, pfeh, more empty space.

wowowow, incarnate... "We're also aiming for conquerable territory...in fact, rather soon now (and not Soon(tm)"
now THAT is something I have been waiting for for a long time. It would give everyone alot to do until other new things come in! what would that look like? new sectors or existing sectors?

yoda, inc is talking about conquering, not about exploring.

I know I know mdaniel, just having a stab at Inc. in my own subtle way :P

md, exploration expansion is something a few of us have been waiting for (it's what REI was invented for). yoda's comment was directed at the fact that it will still be delayed. My reaction is 'it will get here when it's time is right'.
May 25, 2007 yodaofborg link
My reply to relayers comment is you can fly at /set fov -75 and the universe is not upside-down!
May 25, 2007 incarnate link
mdaniel: it'll probably first show up as a serco/itani nation conflict in Deneb.

yoda: yes, exploration is delayed. I want to make better use of "space" in general before we start adding more. But, yes, exploration is still coming. I need to spend more time working with our sector-generation algorithms too, to see if I can get it to make some more interesting stuff.

Hey Inc, have you seen any of that procedural generation work that Introversion has been doing lately? ([1]). I know it's not really the same field, but it just seems like there are a lot of neat ideas in those posts. Plus, they're working off of some research paper, so they might not have a patent monopoly. I know you had mentioned the idea of "high-speed in-sector transport devices" (I'm too lazy to look up the reference), and it might be sorta neat to have a procedural way to lay out those...
