Ignorant questions
Is there an overall point to the game? Do you get more interesting missions
once you get to a certain level?
once you get to a certain level?
The overall point of the game is to kill Lord Spidey as many times as you can.
Yes, you do get more things at higher levels, but in truth, the best aspect of the game is PvP, with a real player on the other end trying to kill you before you kill him. Big fun.

The devs are currently working to add an overall point to the game, among many other things.
Yeah, we're somewhat lacking in the high-level endgame. But we are hard at work on that.
if we have an end game, will people stop playing?
Most people will stop playing at that point, bean.
Smittens will continue to play evan at that point, however, because his ego will remain unfulfilled. ;)

After you reach the End-Game, you go backwards, when all your kill/mining/trading etc reduce XP and $. Then, when you are out of money and down to 0/0/0/0/0, you can be born again.
Thus the natural circle of life!

The point of the game , once you get a few basic levels and a bit of xp, is to join in with the spirit of the thing . Turn up at player run events , enjoy the RP side of things , join a guild and work co-operatively with other players. PvP is a continual learning process, you will never complete that "mission".
The main point of VO for me is and will always be: *to have fun*.
VO has a nice player community and a lot of potential for expansion.
What is the overall point to any game, like chess for instance?
Where is the endgame in chess?
You want to win. But you win one game and you go for another and another....
You lose some, you win some.
Things are very similar in VO and depending on the path your character takes you have a gazillion of endgames. Every mission ended with success, every pvp fight you win, every war or furball you manage to stay alive, every escape from pirate chasing you.... You can become best trader, miner, pvp-er in the game, your guild can become the best combat, trading or mining VO guild ever.
It is all about player interaction, group gameplay and RP-ing.
The list goes on and on.
In the *soon* distant future VO will expand with new content and provide even more fun thus expanding your *mini endgame* possibilities even more.

In WoW, you spend alot of time playing against the computer. Even in PvP, the majority of your time is spent in attaining equipment, and levels.
What I appreciate about VO is that almost all of the interaction is player based. Even when I'm botting, I'm thinking about how a player would fly differently, or take the time to practice different techniques. Even while I'm trading, I practice quickly jumping sectors to improve my chance of winning on the next Deneb Run.
So, in essence, no there is no endgame. It will keep on going as long as there are other competitive players.

And imaginative ones, who conjure up events.
Existence.
there is a main point to this game just shoot serco and serco allies like BiOcom and pirates and have fun doing it
my next goal currently is to get a prospector badge
and after that is going to get 50 million creds and then its going to be 1000 player kills
this sould keep me busy for about 3 months

I have a far loftier goal, though some people tell me it's unattainable: teach kids like spidey to use proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Only when every one of these damn kids writes the language like it's meant to, will I leave this game.
So yeah, I'm here for the LONG haul.

It isn't possible. Some people just don't ever get it. And some use their "learning disabilities" as an excuse.. ("I have dyslexia", etc)
I have dyslexia, and yet, I try extremely hard to make sure I don't mess up while writing. I can usually catch most of my errors as I type, or re-read what I have written.
The problem is, others don't care to actually look over what they've written, and others still, just don't have the necessary education to know how to punctuate and spell, and have no desire to learn.
Life is about learning. If I fail to learn at least one thing, daily, then I have failed at life.
Even if it's something as simple as "hey, this is the end of a sentence. PUT A PERIOD MORON!"

EDIT: "fixed a missing letter"

VO Is an interactive IRC client, the best part is when someone starts being annoying you can blow them up which is more satisfying than the old kick option or trout slap
