SKV Combat Training Videos
As an experiment, I've designed a series of 3 training videos with the goal of helping new players get a grasp of the mechanics of combat faster. I wanted to post them here and gather some feedback about the usefullness of the videos. If they prove helpful and there's a decent amount of people who would be interested in seeing more, I could continue to add on to the series with new installments covering different topics. I was thinking I could branch out to even more basic stuff like FA and auto aim. Or I could go into more advanced topics. Of course I'm not giving any secrets away =P The ideas covered are basic and aimed at New - Intermediate players. In most cases, it's a lot easier to show people something as opposed to telling them about it.
So here they are, post back and let me know if these prove helpful at all. If they are, I'll make a couple more.
The videos are best viewed in 1024 x 768 res.

Flare Dodging: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=5432040271234039469&hl=en
The Fifth Strafe: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3503967571394410702&hl=en
**Edit: For those who wish to download and view the videos in better res, follow the link below and then click on the file for the video you wish to see. Thx to yoda for hosting!

Those are great! Thank you for the work you put into that! I can see those being very helpful to newer players and even some not-so-new players. Make a few more and we can put them right on the wiki. They'd be an excellent resource. Maybe host the files somewhere at a higher resolution?
The only other suggestion I have is that it'd be nice in the future if you used a better microphone or at least a homemade pop filter. Being into recording myself, I found the sound quality of your voiceover a bit distracting.

I'm working on getting them up on RapidShare at this moment.
As for the mic, yeah the popping bugs me too, but unfortunately that was the best I was able to get on my crappy mic.

Somebody made a tour of the nation sectors intro type of thing a long long time ago. I think they were these http://vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/1/4100 not sure though as they seemed to have gone poof. Something like would be a nifty project too. But that's not really related to this I guess. It just reminded me of it. :P
and why the hell don't you freeze to death in that lmine thing!?

If you want, you can get a metal hanger and bend it into a circle. Then wrap a pantyhose (pantyhoe?) around it. Put that between your mouth and the microphone and you've got a homemade pop filter. It doesn't color the sound (at least for your purposes) and does a good job of getting rid of those pops.
Awesome! Great footage and advice.
Only criticism I could make is the lyrics of the bg music in the flare dodging video were a little distracting.
Otherwise this is really, really good stuff. Would definitely be interested in seeing more. This might be a candidate for a sticky thread.

Absolutely.
Yep , excellent work .
In the long term a "Training videos" section in the VO site sidebar with links to all the good videos that players have made would be a good thing, give prospective players an idea of the level of action in vo.

Thx to the ever generous yoda, the videos are now being hosted! I've updated the link in the original post.
Very nice. That's perfect. I still say the VO wiki would the perfect place to link these videos from. Make a little training video section with descriptions of each video and written versions of their general content and strategies with links to each individual video next to it.
Oh, and yoda, sunflares are better than starflares!

There should be a wiki section for *all* videos
/me claps for Ghost's videos. Bravo, Sir!
Pfft, stars are lighter, and pack just as much pop per tube if you can aim! You can get em moving faster than sunnies faster too, cos of reduced mass! DO THE MATH PEOPLE! :D
Damn you, stealing my idea... bastards. :(
A link to these can now be found in the PvP section of the Vendetta Wiki. I may put together some more after I gauge if these were useful or not.
Well, the video about flares helped me out tons.
Y'know, if you can aim, why not go with sunflares? They kill things faster. Also, the extra weight is only a problem if you A) Can't fly or aim or B) are flying an already fat boat that wasn't meant for combat in the first place. So there.
