Rampant Cheating

Only vulnerable to avalons!?!?!?!?!?! I highly disagree with that. You're saying that if golds mine sc15 (as they have in the past, no offense, but gold's the only one that I've personally seen do it), I have to pay 32000c to clear the station? That's RIDICULOUS! Instead, they should make mines vulnerable to all weapons. As of now, you cannot damage mines with rockets, missiles or avalons, only energy weapons and ramming.

/me smells smoke...
Something is burning...
Oh no! It's FLAMES!!!
Jun 07, 2003 Arolte link
Flames can burn?
Jun 07, 2003 SirCamps link
This is off-topic...... Point is, what you guys did was low.
Jun 07, 2003 StarFreeze link
Golds eh? So far I've seen gold do it once, and red do it 4 times, blue has done it 1 time too.

Also: Why do you always start moving topics to flames rogue? This topic was completely on topic until that stupid post.
Jun 07, 2003 sheepdog link
ok, one way to de-mine while doing it legit IE keeping a gold char going for red flag, get a team of about 4 people (not including yourself if you are d-mining) fly in if you are demining get far away from the mines and the fighting, but you can still see the flag/mines with scope. use the rail gun from far away. you can take out mines real quick with scope and a hevy batt. This way you arnt cheating.

PS: I'm for one account=one nation.

/me thinks that would fit with the "retail" plan for 3 boxes.

oh rouge:

Ive also seen reds mine station 15... and all the versions of GK. but station defense should fix that.
Jun 07, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
Yes I did de-mine the reds flag.
And you may consider it cheating too, I know I do.
But be realistic here! ITS A G-A-M-E!!!! CTF is temporary feature inside a GAME to help test certain aspects of a GAME.
That aside here is why I did it:
Because of the recent mutiny by masses of blue vets that have gone to either Serco or Neutral, It leaves the Itani with MABYE 1 or 2 vets on during a lucky day. Usually its me and a couple of n00bs on. At the time I beleive a few golds, 2 blues, and I were trying to stop the capping party of 8 Serco using 4 proms, a hog, a vult, and a pair of Valks. Vs a Centurion, a bus, and a smattering of other ships. Hachi spaced the flag to help us keep you from capping, but you found and killed him AND mined the flag with about 4-6 people guarding it. Is this not excessive? So I logged on under a red account to clear the mines, and did it really hurt you anyway?
No.
Was I relaying your team chat into public chat?
No.
Have certain Serco done this before and YOU SUPPORTED THEM?
Of course.
So how was it any different than the way you use to acheive your means?

PS: Grow up and stop whining
pps: sorry bout the grammar and such, just woke up 5 minutes ago.
Jun 07, 2003 roguelazer link
Well, what's the topic? So far the one account=one nation thing (which I agree with in that forum, but NOT in one account=one char) has been a recurring theme after my avalon post... So that can't be the "lost" topic. After all, I even managed to work that topic into THIS post! And if you think my first post was off topic, then, well, what are you on?

PS: Like I said, no offense. I've only SEEN gold do it. Does that mean gold only does it? I dunno. But I've SEEN gold do it twice, and not anyone else. I can only post based on my personal experience.

[EDIT]Scuba just posted after I posted this... And I agree with him... Just stating my views...[/EDIT]
Jun 07, 2003 sheepdog link
hey, you know what would fix de-mineing? you can only de-mine your own mines, members of you team may not, even if they run into em.
Jun 07, 2003 SirCamps link
Scuba, your team is weak, so you use under-handed tactics? That's not even a plausible excuse.

I have _never_ supported same-team demining, and you know that. This is a g-a-m-e. I agree, however, every game has rules. If you don't want to be capped, I suggest you mine your flag. Demining ours did not help you accomplish your objective at all.

Just because people left your team doesn't give you any "rights." Either de-mining should be "acceptable" to all teams or none of them.

We achieved our goal honestly. We came into 1, took the flag without any demining help, flew to 2, [I] killed the guy with the red flag, and capped. Excessive does not mean cheating. You, however, did not even try to stop us honestly, and just became a pain in the ass. Did you relay our teamchat? I have no clue, you were unresponsive for the longest time (I saw your driftng). An obvious guess was that you were PMing someone.

And this is not "whining." Whining is more of "you @#$)(*@#$ stop it you @$%)(*$%." These are well-thought out charges and accusations, your response of which is "grow up," which completely side-steps the issue.
Jun 07, 2003 roguelazer link
Actually, this whole thing is just one big flame with the idea of one account = one nation thrown in for good luck. Hopefully, the forum mod will either lock it and/or move it to Roleplaying.
Jun 07, 2003 electric27 link
I disagree with the whole flame thing, but whatever. I think this is exactly why the test is set up, so that way a possible exploit is brought to the surface and ironed out. I am a strong advocator of 1 account=1 nation. Were we a little overboard with our flag defense? Maybe, but just before we set up that defense it seemed as though we would be up against some of the best players from both the Neuts and the Itani. And while 5krail didn't de-mine, that's because all the mines were already cleared. I'm not making any accusations in saying that, I'm just bringing it to light. And I do like the whole CTF thing right now, it's amazing how much teamwork and planning we always put into our caps, that's why I'm proud of them.

In response to the comments about more Guides being the solution:

Currently the Guides are *not* charged with the responsibility of policing "exploits", the term being used here to describe the misuse of aspects of the game that are working as they were intended to function. A Guide may well intervene if an actual bug (an aspect of the game that is malfunctioning) is being exploited.

"Abusive language" *is* something that the Guides have been asked to intervene in. This was something you the users requested.

Lemming:

These are good suggestions, however:

1)You *can* /msg the Guides when you are mute

2) Players should always assume there is a Guide on, and act accordingly.
Jun 07, 2003 Suicidal Lemming link
1) ooooooooh
2) well, if a guide isn't on and some one isn't acting acordingly, someone who is asking a guide to make them stop might want to know if a guide is on to do something

Simple as 1 account = 1 character or Nation may be there is a way round it by having multiple accounts.
I tested this by just creating this account and putting garbage into the required feilds, so its easy enough to do. So now I have two accounts with which I can choose two nations or two players.
I'm a vet and yet by doing this you have no idea who I am.

P.S. How do you delete accounts? :)
Jun 07, 2003 genka link
really people, 1 account = 1 char is not the way to go. There are lots of people that don't cheat, and have multiple characters. I do, for one, and I like both of my main chars. And as stinger said, there's nothing to stop you from creating another account.
Jun 07, 2003 roguelazer link
1) Make better safeguards to stop accounts from being falsely created
2) Make it 1 account=1 nation

OK - this is a topic that gets me mad
and forgive me if i am repeating views etc...

ps note the ' ' around nouns/verbs ;)

i 'hate' 'station miners'
but.......
i 'hate' 'friendly' team 'deminers'

i'm not keen nor do i resort to 'exploiting' often as a way of playing anygame

i will be abusive towards friendly team deminers / station miners
regardless by targeting them with weapons fire / ramming

i will not friendly demine at any point unless i am unaware the mines are of my own side
( btw i fly as a pilot in all nations)

if someone one your own team mines a station or a flag let them..

for station mining -

if they are on an opposing team let them............

if you support this action - then by all means fly about and help defend the mines / player....

if you do not support this action...

broadcast to all on an open chat that the station is mined
keep repeating this broadcast....

include information as to size of field - defenders - ship type
tactics = weaponry being used etc -

gather a bunch of your more 'savvy' players and defeat the
station miner - the tactics are varied and seldom mean losses unless the miner has help and even then not very often unless you feel foolhardy

if outnumbered keep warning your team that this is a hazard and fly a different route.... or change to another hostile team to the miner that has better odds to defeat him

in a game that never stops - patience and timing are key skills to develop

in my opinion unless at least 5 'neutral' trade stations are mined at once and have defending forces hostile to me at each one - it isnt going to catch me out nor is it going to interrupt my trading except in rare instances

for flag defence....

let the team who is willing to pay the cost in time effort and organization of defending his flag defend in peace.....

if you are an attacking player or a have a grudge with a player that hides behind his home nation defence and defenders....

(who will be liable to mine their flag as soon as enemies enter the sector)

.....give the time for the field to dissipate - or attack the defences/defenders in a non 'friendly' nation ship especially in their home sector....

i realize in sectors 1 / 2 / 3 / 12 / 6 / 4 there is more leeway for an obnoxious player in his home turf to cause havoc - but this is his right.... leave his home and he isn't a problem any more

try and leave your retribution to a more appropriate form and
time - and try to keep the collateral n00b losses to a minimum

there a various reasons for my ethics on this and why i chose to post - i dont want anything ive said to be taken personally - it
is more of a practical guide of how to avoid situations that detract from the gameplay here at present.

a side thought on community / guides / in-game behaviour :

As there a few guides at present and even then i'm sure have certain restrictions as to what actions they can take and when at present, depending on circumstance ...

i feel it is down to the players that wish the game/community to be an enjoyable experience for young/old/new/veteran gamers...

to guide new players (and old) by using tactics that are valid
within a reasonable band of morality to best deal with a player / players whose actions you do not support.....

(by this i do not mean 'valid' as in what the current 'rules' allow you to achieve - so dont go down that road of pedantic bickering)

and to spell it out - most people are 'sheep' - if they see someone doing something,
they are likely to try it out for themselves.....
if you exploit even to 'fight' an exploiter....
you will teach people bad habits

try and teach people the best way to enjoy the game
not the best way to annoy the community

(and yes i am a hypocrite so don't bother posting to point this out and forgive my spelling)

pps. sorry for the 'rant' but the friendly demining aspect of this game has been going on since i started playing here and i find it hard to tolerate - especially in the CTF aspects of the current 'game' and i am also in the line of certain insinuations to my character within this threaad that i do not deem hold any place here - if you wish to assassinate my person - do it in a 'fan' forum -

I managed to double post an hour after the original post... damn you re-load button, damn you!!!
Jun 07, 2003 roguelazer link
Ooh! I love that idea! I now wish I'd thought of it myself... But you should still limit an account to one nation and put in strong anti-multi-account guards. :) Nice to hear from you anyways a1k0n, always a pleasure.
