I've found the best tool for creating icons & logos is Inkscape:

Bit of a learning curve, but the results are worth it.

It creates vector art, the advantage being it can be scaled to any resolution easily.

I like all but the second two. Too easily identified as PS filters. The others are great though—I like the Nation colors.

Everytime I try to make this an icon with EasyPicture2Icon, it turns out crappy. Will keep trying with other stuff.

The current icon looks more refined.
