Rejoined after a Long 1 year Break
And i see that the capitols ships aint implemented yet?
Comon guys u got a great game going , i dont know if its your primary job or not but the game dosent evolve too much.
I left to move back to Eve ( ok dont flame i know this aint Eve * i dont like the slow paced action of eve anyway * ) and i was sure that the next time id join in the game would have Capitol Ships / Cruiser Class Big More Baddies baddies and somehow more stable market Player economy etc.
Since its a small scale game for now i know things change at a lower pace but i dont know maybe you should get a bigger team up or something .
Id hate to see this game potential get wasted because the game gets to be the equal of super mario bros on the NES Vs Halo 2 wich will make it fade away.
Great Game , Great Potential , Great ideas.

Capital ships are ingame.
He means with playing, well after an half year.....of none playing.... I am back as well =)
Pointless targets may be "ingame"; but if so, it's properly translated as "barely ingame."
If you direct your attention to the News link to the left, you'll read up on what the devs have been up to. You could also do a search on capships.
They could bring in user-pilotted cap ships online right now, but they would be kludgey and flawed. As VO becomes the complex game it should be, new layers of complexity must be created (or repaired) before progress can continue.
For me, cap ships aren't really a valid measure of progress anyway. I've got my eye on Kourier and on a new faction system.

I'm not sure if the comment of a total newbie like me could be useful for a discussion concerning VO's upcoming new contents but ... I'll try to do my best.
I've followed this project from the very beginning (well, at least from the Fall 2004 Mac demo that I've found on the Inside Mac Games website) but I've never really get into this game ... this is the first time.
From the perpective of a newcomer, this game doesn't appear incomplete at all and doesn't lack any polish. Au contrarie, this is one of the few indie MMOs I've tried (and I've tried lots of them) that feels like a well finished, solid and well focused project. And this is a pretty unusual feeling among the western MMO games scene ... just think about some big commercial titles like D&L, VSoH or more small-scale indie and Open-Source games like Minions of Mirth or Planeshift ...
I understand that for many VO veteran players the lack of new content may be somewhat frustrating but if we accept the developers view of the game future (that is, staying far from the media attention until VO has achieved the desired gamedesign goals) we should agree that maybe the more urgent needs don't concern its substance but its form ...
I mean, there are enough contents in VO to keep newcomers busy for months and the game is already so stable and polished that it's almost impossible to find fault with it ...
The only drawbacks they could notice would concern the kind of stuff that people expect to find in nowadays MMOs: the lack of a community manager (that could be involved with media relationship, help the game masters and allow the devs to focus on the game development and to join the BBS only when they need to anounce something or when they really enjoy to talk with the community) and the total absence of in-game artwork (yes, I think that good artwork fosters that suspension of disbelief and, well, people love it).
My English is probably a bit farraginous ... what I want to say is that VO, with its current contents and its current mechanics, could already meet the needs of a few thousands gamers, it only needs someone that takes some weight off the devs and a bit of enticing artwork ...
Anyway, this is my (casual gamer) point of view ... don't be too hard on me :)

We were supposed to have the new economy / universe build-structure in production by now (intended to precede capital ship construction). Development on that has been delayed many months due to other problems.. the main program that was supposed to serve that function had some catastrophic failures. We're still in the midst of rewriting it.
"Stuff Happening" is a big part of game development (and software development in general). One rolls with the punches the best one can. Yes, things are behind, but on the upside, we should eventually come out somewhat ahead, since the new back-end system will be a lot better and more scalable than what we were previously going to use.

Meh, theres enough *user created* content to keep me entertained for hours, *user created* content can be anything from a gank squad getting ganked, to a RP story that someone wants to play out.
Hell, even BP and CTC can be real fun, even when borken, if enough players do it. The last few times I've been in a nation war, I have lasted no more than a minute due to UiT's that I've blown away in the past, deciding I am going to be thier first target, thats *content* enough for anyone(on both sides). Try being well known for one reason or another(without being a total dickhead, your allowed to be a dick though ;), and you will fit right in.

I agree with Yoda, but only upto a certain degree.
User created content is very fun. Probably even more fun than any system provided content could ever be. I love to run in DRs, for example, and that's probably the activity I like most in the game; and know what? It's exclusively user created content.
Said this, however, demanding *ALL* content creation to users is very unwise, especially if users have not enough tools to create content but need to "work around" such lack of tools or "imagine" content out of nowhere, because otherwise there's not enough system provided content.
VO can't be a SecondLife without SL's user tools and an appropriate (and balanced, I might add) infrastructure.
I know I would destroy my game if I force my users fill the too many gaps I leave around. And they know that; that's why I need to add and tweak constantly to keep them happy. And not only to keep the donations coming! :)
