It's already at 0. Maybe I was just imagining things and i was getting 4 fps before the update :P
For me everything seems faster now. I turned it all on and to max and its playable throughout at 25fps min where before I would get 4fps in places with everything on max. Just me?
My mpengine is at 0 and everything is very much slower. I'm getting 5-6 fps in Verasi C-02 where I used to be in the 40s.
Welp, it seemed slower last night to me but I was tired and didn't get a chance to really test it.
I'll promise to do better and report back tonight with before & after fps, with and without mpengine.

Can everyone who reports slower vs faster performance also post specs on their respective macs? I'm curious if this is a PPC vs Intel thing.
2 GHz PowerPC iMac G5, 17" 1440x900 LCD screen. 1GB of DDR SDRAM, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB, Mac OS 10.4.9. I was running 1152x720 windowed mode during the test.
You realize that windowed mode can have a substantial negative impact on framerate, right?
Yes, but it's never really happened to me before in most games (including VO).
1.8 GHz iMac G5 (PPC), embedded nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 64 MB card. All settings as LOW as possible, no glow or shaders or nuthin. 1440 x 900 LCD screen, 1 GB of DDR SDRAM, Mac OS 10.4.9. Running in 1440 x 900 fullscreen mode. Precaching all textures just to see if it helps.
With mpengine=0
Killing oruns in Eo C-6 with Raileigh: avg of about 26 fps
Sitting in Deneb O-3 looking at the station: about 16 fps.
With mpengine=1
Killing oruns in Eo C-6 with Raileigh: avg of about 29 fps
Sitting in Deneb O-3 looking at the station: about 18 fps.
The mpengine really seems to help the choppiness for some reason. With the mpengine set to 0, when I sit still and then move suddenly, there's a huge lag as the computer labors to catch up with the motion.
With it set to 1, there's none of that "effect" at all.

24" iMac Core 2 Duo
2.16ghz
2gig
NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 Mo
vo in-window, ~1344 x 840, maxed-out options, minus full screen glow & space junk
this release is much better. i peak above 550fps in "empty" views (aka, only backdrop). looking at rotating stations in complex/busy sectors, it rarely drops bellow 80 fps.
in border skirmish sector, i can maintain 100 fps, occasional drop to 60-ish when full of teradons and big-yellow-balls-of-snots and whatnot.
it it weren't for my lagging issue, this would utterly rock.
i'm gonna chat with my isp the moment i have time and try to find out what's going on.

yeah, but vo on mac doesn't give you a key to switch out vo to the background, given the system behavior is turned off when hiding the menu bar. a workaround would be to show the menu bar when you enter a station (minimal annoyance and risk of switching when in a station).

I recall a dev saying sometime somewhere that they never counted what SPECIFIC bots you killed and what not, but they did keep total kills and bot kills listed so...
I ask this in the hopes that it's a bug: Are the new Hive Hunter ribbons supposed to start as if you killed 0 before?

Previously, (AFAIK) "bot" kills included NPC traders and unrats due to the number being calculated by subtracting your PKs from your total number of kills.
You're probably remembering Momerath's comment about Leviathan kills that turned out to... not be the case.
Also, they *are* supposed to start that way. That's what Ray meant when he said "the hive hunter badges aren't retroactive". Even if they did act retroactively, one would only get the kills credited from the previous week, and by the time that they fixed the bugs with the Hive Hunter badges it was too late to make it retroactive on that week's worth of data--they would have ended up counting bots twice.

I believe it is a PPC vs Intel "thing".

It might be a video card thing. Different video cards handle vertex buffers differently.
Also, mpengine should have no effect on single-cpu hardware, but who knows. maybe it does under certain circumstances. It's really hard to tell because of all the different variables.

I did go on last night to try a few different things but, there were no convoys around to mess up my fps.
I did go to full-screen to lessen the impact of whatever is going on and it was quite enjoyable.
I'll mess with it again when Deliverator is working.

Just a note, particles are now massively improved on my Linux box. 4 clusters of them fired into a bunch of roids now only drops me to 60fps!
Except now there's almost no difference between Medium and High effects level in terms of fps. :-(

faster for me on a:
1.93 GHz PowerPC iMac G5 (iSight), 17" 1440x900. 1.5GB of DDR SDRAM, ATI Radeon 9600 128MB, Mac OS 10.4.9. running fullscreen
btw my settings are and have always been 20/20 for details and distance.
In the past I noticed that setting this to less than full it would start loading stuff as I fly around and kill my fps. I always turned of shading until now. After the patch I can have it all on max with shading on.

when I target and charinfo someone with a lot or ribbons, their charinfo window is stretched off the screen to the right.
Cunjo: Ahh yeah. I kept putting that screen off till later and then forgetting about it.
