The Plasma Cannon
I'm not sure what this is. When I use the plasma cannon, when it hits a target, it engulfs it in a gaseous flame. I had Scuba Steve 9.0 fire, and he said he doesn't see the same thing, which I don't either when he fires.
So, devs, what's up with that? Here are pictures of me firing in two different ships, and a fourth of it close-up.

That's interesting. The cloud only shows up when the cannon is fully charged (or nearly so), but assuming you are both firing fully charged cannons I have no idea. You'd think that all the graphic effects would be handled client side so that anyone's fire would look the same on a particular machine at a given graphics setting.
are you sure that it isn't an explosion, because it looks like that ?

Celebrim, that is the Large-port plasma cannon, which is not chargeable. And yes, it looks like an explosion, but it has no prox fuse.
Duh. My bad.
Then I really have no idea, though the charge cannon and the plasma cannon both appear to use the same explosion animation with the lingering cloud of glowing gas.

This is a known bug with the particle system. It should be fixed soon.
OK. I tried again and it doesn't give off that nifty explosion. Keep it, though! :-D
