technically, it's abuse of system mechanics too (aka, an exploit), if you profit from it (take the cargo). just like station farming.

but that should be fixed with the faction redux. i hope.

momerath, I'm sorry to report the exact same thing happened just a few minutes ago, at 18:20 GMT+1. I took the mission to beat back 27 Hive bots in Sedina C-12, but when I got there, the place was empty, except for one unrat with a displaced sense of business opportunities.

Are you out there, destroying spawning points again, Ecka? ;-)

The Hive-Skirmish mission in Sedina sends me to sectors with no bots in it.

There is an ion storm in Sedina F-7 at the moment... a dozen unrats inside. I'm certain they don't want to be there, but the number hasn't changed that I can tell.

Ion and Firsm: was this in production or on the test server?
Mar 02, 2007 Ion link
Production. Haven't heard about anyone else having this problem. Perhaps me and Firsm are bugged.
Mar 02, 2007 RelayeR link
Th only problem I had was old, finished missions still showing up on the list.
Mar 02, 2007 firsm link
I encountered the no bots in the HS sector problem on the production server.

aye HS missions in empty sectors still occur , and hs missions for latos available in nyrius ?

We appreciate its complex , not being critical .

Well, as of about 5am, hopefully the HS and BS thing is fixed, but only on the test server. It would be nice to get some player testing before putting it in production, as it's a pretty big change.

First HS mission:
Took a mission to a sector with 5 bots seen lately, and there were 5 bots there along with 1 Xang Xi NPC. I killed a few bots then decided to see how the NPC was doing... and found him sitting stationary getting slowly killed by an Orun Collector. Only after I killed that Orun the NPC seemed to have woken up and joined the fight. After 16 bots were killed the "We have driven off the Hive" message appeared and all hive bots ran from the sector. I noticed though that some of the hive bots were behaving like the NPC - sitting there and just turning around, starting to move only when shot (at least I think so, none of them lived long enough to actually shoot back).

Second HS mission:
I took a mission with 36 bots seen lately and went to a sector with Levi & Co. I wasn't able to tell if the bot behaviour from previous mission was present or not because of all the fighting, but I did notice that queens were sometimes warping out and in for no reason - nobody was shooting them (I think). Anyway, after a lot of deaths on both sides the "We have driven off the Hive" message appeared, the hive bots ran away except for the Levi... and then I got these messages:

Later on I checked the Advancement Logs and discovered:

It seems that before my last kill prior to the mission ending 150 combat and 2625 credits were taken from me for god knows what reason.

Unfortunately there's more... and as unbelievable as it sounds... two cloaked ships with uber-long-range mining beams started mining the Levi! At least that's what it looked like... you can see the puff of smoke on the Levi that you get when mining:

Those are not mining beams, those are repair beams or something, quite normal I think.
Mar 03, 2007 Aramarth link
Also, queens commonly jump in and out of the Levi sector.
Mar 03, 2007 slime73 link
Those were Observers with mining beams that repair, misiorysio. Nothing new.

The problem is that they were present with no other ships in sector except for me and the Levi. It's probably unrelated to Kourier though.

I'm sorry to put a dent in VO's nice, new KOURIER shine, devs, but after some more thourough testing, Hive Hunt seems more broken to me than ever. This is how my sojourn into the world of professional bot hunting on Production went down today:

At approximately 16:30 GMT+1, I accepted my first Hive Hunt mission from Xang Xi, in Sedina. When I arrived in K-10, there were just a few bots left. However, as soon as me and my Xang Xi pals shot down the first one, the mission ended.

Glad to be 10 000 credits richer, but a bit worried that the exploit strike force would pop out at me at any moment, I went back to try it again. If nothing else, I could always claim I was playtesting, and get rich in the process ;-) The second mission ended just the same way, after shooting down one bot out of 5 (in both cases, the mission board reported a presence of about 15 bots) in K-8 . This second time, the mission log continued to report fighting between Xang Xi and the bots, even though the mission was over, and I had received my reward.

Richer, and more worried, I went back again. This time, I struck something that appeared to be gold, but was quickly revealed to be non-premium Aquaean ore. At first, everything went well. The system I arrived in (Sedina J-6) was full of bots (among them a queen) and Xang Xi warriors, and the fighting lasted for about 10 minutes before the last bot went down. The mission didn't end, but a minute later, two additional bots jumped into the sector, so everything seemed normal. When these went down, the mission still didn't end, but more jumped in after a while. At 8% ship integrity, I thought I'd make a quick jump to the upper Xang Xi station in Sedina, repair, and return if new bots still continued to jump into the system.

However, when I was about to exit the station, 5000 credits were deducted from my account, and the mission disappeared, without an explanation in the mission log. When I noticed that, I also discovered two "Good work!" in the mission log, not related to completion of the mission or shooting down bots.

To further confuse me, when I exited the station, I was immediately attacked by one or two Fennus Guardians and Valent Assault, of Serco allegiance. The station guards did nothing about it, even when I let them hit me (hoping to have the satisfaction of seeing Xang Xi strike pilots battle these assassin bots from the homeland I long ago betrayed and lost my standing with), but when I finally shot back, I was temp-KoSed, and had to flee.

This last event was probably not related to KOURIER/Deliverator and the missions I took, but it made the game feel broken just the same.

Actually, had this been a purposeful event, with serco bots hunting me for my -600 serco standing (the character I was playing with was serco himself), it would have been brilliant. Even if the station guards didn't help me, it would have been a cool addition if it somehow turned out that they had been bribed not to aid me (through a quick chat message saying "Our station sensors detect no threat in the system. Why are you firing at these innocent serco gents?" or something similar).

But I'm afraid this was the result of a broken back-end, not a dynamic and ever-changing universe ;-)

Thanks for the report Ion. There are a couple bugs I'm aware of that caused most of your woes; I'll be working on them today.

I *am* surprised at the early endings and *really* surprised at the credits deduction (there's a restricted range of use for the give-money-to-player function starting at 0- taking money through that mechanism should be impossible). I'll look into this too.
Mar 04, 2007 PsyRa link
Seems like the right place to post this.

Took a couple of hive missions, all ended up being in Ion storms, so I decided to head for greener pastures.

after aborting the mission with no penalties, I continued to receive updates on the XI NPC's fighting the bots in the mission I had dropped.
Mar 04, 2007 momerath42 link
Yea, sorry about that. The modified bot-cleanup broke players-aborting-missions and players-being-kicked-from-groups-for-friendly-fire. It's fixed on the test server (player testing more than welcome). I'll probably put the fix into production tomorrow evening.

I was just doing bp as liddy and the payouts don't stack up. Even with 7 other freindleys in the same group doing bp all I got was a lousy 75k, didn't even cover the cost of my losses. Both clay and Liddy are down to about 1 mill and I was hoping there'd be a way to make money by fighting because trading makes me want to puke its so boring.
